Phoenix from Cooper

I need some help from any Cooper owners out there, specifically their varmint rifles. I am wanting to buy one of the Phoenix single shot in 22-250. Do these guns shoot as good as advertised? I've seen some test targets that are one hole groups, is this common? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dave,

The first thing that you need to be aware of is that the Cooper "test" target is shot at slightly less than 40 yards, not 100 yards. Secondly, it is shot indoor, off of sandbags, using a 36 power scope so there is no concern with mirage, wind or other similar issues. Take a look at the target nowhere does it infer that it is shot at 100 yards.

Cooper guarantees their centerfires to shoot a 3 shot group of 1/2" at 100 yards. Now that we have that clarified, lets get on to the real world. I currently have a half-dozen Cooper centerfires ranging from 222 thru 22-250, in the past I have owned at least another half-dozen and each and everyone of them easily met the 1/2" guarantee. My 6ppc varminter model shoots the smallest groups but the 222 is right there with it, the 223's shoot great, and the 22/250's I have owned have shot around 3/8".

They are great rifles. They are a bit pricey but IMO they are a great value.

I've got a Phoenix in 204 Ruger. It does shoot as well as advertised. I use 10X powder and either Sierra Blitzking and it'll stay around .3-.4.
