Pellets

It was reported that Air Arms pellets are manufactured by JSB but with dies supplied by Air Arms. It was also reported that these pellets are of better quality and more consistent than the normal JSB varieties.

Every once in a while I get access to high end equipment due to some generous contacts. This place has clean rooms with precision scales plugged into very clean power. With a limited amount of time, I weighed and sorted 50 Air Arms light field pellets that I cleaned in solvent and rinsed at home. Only could separate into 3 groups, 8.32-8.36, 8.40-8.44 and 8.50-8.52. The middle group only had 3 members. I don't know how many barrels will get along with these pellets but they are very nice.

Unsorted, they shoot as well as any in my USFT/LW combination. If sorting makes as big a difference as normal JSB pellets, this will be fun for as long as they last.

These are 4.51. My opinion is that it is tough to cut a chamber/leade that will be best for all pellets. My chamber/leade allows JSB pellets to fit like a glove, you would have to seat CP pellets with a hammer. I don't know how a probe system would handle this.

While in Oregon a few wks ago for their State argun match, I saw Wayne Burns do really, really well using the lightweight AA pellets (7.4gr?) in his sub-12 fpe rifle. He said it was shooting right with his full powered rifle with respect to windage considerations.

These are da bomb..!! Note they are 2005 vintage..I'll be testing these against the 'new' 2010 JSBH's tomorrow...weighed,sorted,..

My plan is 25 & 50 yard testing (from bench)..I have access to an area near my hacienda....can do both 'no wind' and in windy conditions..

Some preliminary results comparing 2009 JSBH Die #26 to 2010 JSBH Die#30. Due to temps getting upwards 100 F, I only shot two 5 shot groups of the 2009 JSBH's....I also switched to my Caldwell bag for last three groups of the 2010 JSBH's...so I have to go back and re-test all groups using my bag when temps cool off.....sweat was getting in my eyes.. lol..

25 Yards..NRA A36 target

Entire test pellets taken straight from tins..no weighing/sorting..

Small Groups

Looks like the die 30 and your barrel get along very nicely. Die 38 is said to be very good as well. What dimension are you using for the pellets, .177 or LD's .168?

I'm measuring CTC with a digital caliper is all...nothing else..that way everything is consistant with way I documented the 2009 Die #26 last year on my target groups at home....

Finally got some targets done at 50 yards...only shot the 2010 JSBH. All groups measured are 5 shots straight from tin, no weighing/sorting.

First target...dead calm,no wind....6 groups average .449" CTC..

Second target..wind varible 4-10 mph switching with gusts..

7 groups average .861" CTC....took some extra sighters to gage wind drift, but no success there. Bull #3 wind died,so snuck that group in.

My 'field' shooting bench...not real solid,but handy....Hammerli 850 HPA .177 960 FPS/20 FPE regulated @ 1800 psi..trigger pull 3.5 LBS...(no adjustment for weight)

nice bench !! did you make it or did you have to buy it ? H.B.

I bought it at Big Lots..but had to modify it to make it steady...I only use it when I shoot targets away from home..fits in car trunk....sort of a work in progress...

Below is my bench at home for my 25 yard range...
