is there a parent case for this round or was it a new born?

I read where you can make cases from 308 or 22-250 ?

Seems to me the case would be too long ? Or am I missing

something all together...why not just buy new brass ?

It is a standalone case, but you could make one with some trouble from longer cases. However, it's unique attribute is that it uses a small rifle primer which is arguably more desirable for this case capacity & use.

There are those out there that dislike the small primer pocket and are willing to reform a longer case to change. I don't know if any company is still producing .308 BR cases which were designed with the small primer pocket and would have been the base to make 6BR cases until they became a production item.

So, no reason to not just use new cases unless you really want to use large primers. For myself, I like the 6.5 X 47 Lapua and the 6mm version just the way they are.

Lapua makes the .308 Palma case with small primer pocket. However, the only reason to go to the trouble to use that case in the 6.5x47 Lapua is if you couldn't get the 6.5x47 brass. Moving shoulders back and shortening cases is a pain.

How much is your time and effort worth? You could save $30-$40 per 100 reforming Lapua 308 (or any factory 308/260 for that matter) standard LR primer or (308 Palma small primer),but again what's your time and effort worth. I'd stick with the factory 6.5x47 brass.
