Paper Target Scoring Systems for Benchrest

Are there any scoring systems used for benchrest that incorporate scanning of the paper targets into a PC and then a program which determine the score?

Sighters,
I know the PSL and ARA use a scoring system like that, The targets have to be printed non black as the .22 rimefire greese ring is what the program uses. Not sure if it work's using pellets?

Ask Dan Killough over on rimfire Forum.

Paul,
Thanks for the pointer. I did some "googling". Why are we in WRABF not yet using programs like this? What is stopping us?

On Target Software

I believe On Target software is being used in ARA and PSL matches. I cannot speak for the WRABF, however, the international target is nearly 12 X 18 inches. To scan paper of that size requires expensive equipment that most clubs do not have nor afford.

Gert,

The colored bulls are necessary for the software to locate them accurately and assign an “x,y” coordinate for the center of the bull. The software then locates the hole location and does the same.

Dan, I, and a few others have been troubleshooting a consumer version of the scoring software for future release and I can just draw a circle with a pen that OnTarget is able to locate.

If the weather wasn’t lousy and I had the time, I’d shoot a couple of shots with my air gun and see if OnTarget locates them automatically but it would be easier for you to contact Jeff Block at http://www.ontargetshooting.com/index.html to answer any specific questions you have. He would have to determine if it’s feasible and then modify the ARA/PSL scoring system based on your target characteristics.

Manually scoring the targets with OnTarget would work, but if the targets are larger than standard letter size (which yours are), it would require a more expensive large flat-bed scanner.
A large flat-bed scanner is also required for the automatic scoring of PSL and ARA official targets, but the consumer version will pre-print scaled down targets that fit in standard scanners.

It will work with some mods, we have 350 targets left printed on 11x17 stock, and having another 500 made up this week on 11x17, it can be done, the bulls are correct size. Possibly changing the color of the bulls for the scanner to pick up would help. I haven't looked at the 50m target, so can't say there. One problem I see is that air rifle BR is not big here to justify that single cost, if a club was also shooting ARA, the cost of another program wouldn't be that bad.
