Painting a laminated Remington stock. (??)

Holey-Moley! Did you guys ever try polishing the surface of a Remington 700 laminated varmint stock with some gun polish paste? I couldn't believe how smooth and slick-like-glass the surafce becomes!! There is absolutely no wood grain seen or felt through the surface . That's what really amazed me.

Hmmm....after seeing that, I came up with the idea that I'd love to spray paint it! ....maybe a flecked black finish....that would suit me fine.

Can any of you guys who has ever painted a wood stock advise or recommend what brand paint I can use, and what tips I should pursue? I imagine I'd want to put a protective clear coat on it too after I've applied the top paint surface. How about fleck?...anybody know how to do that?

First, don't polish, wax,or impregnate the wood with anything. Strip or sand it down lightly, then you can hit it with a couple light coats of urethane and then pretty much any of the terxture paints, several require heat from a heat gun or hair dryer to maximise effect.
