Pac-Nor barrel for rimfire?

I've gotten great accuracy from Pac-Nor SS Super Match barrels in .223 and .308. Not shooting them BR, but am getting 1/4 MOA (sometimes better) 5-shot groups with my handloads, a Fudd front rest and quality rear bag.

The rimfire bug has bitten me and I'd like to shoot in my club's "friendly" BR matches. Before I plunge headlong into a $3K (?) custom, I'd like to build-up my Kimber 82G that I've been shooting reasonably well...high teens/low two's..in stock condition. There's no after-market trigger alternative, but "nemohunter" who posts here from time-to-time, is modifying my trigger to achieve about a 2 oz. pull. If that works out, I'll try a tuner, then consider rebarreling.

Therefore, my question about Pac-Nor. The Kimber barrel is a straight contour with .952 OD. I think the action accepts a 3/4"-19 TPI barrel, but that's off the top of my head. My local 'smith is ill, but Pac-Nor advertises that they will rebarrel/true actions. Should I pursue this, or are there better alternatives? Like I said, before I go high-end, I'd like to get a feel for rimfire BR w/o busting the bank....or having the little lady threaten divorce over "yet another gun." Some of you probably understand this.

I shot against a Pac Nor last year that was near unbeatable. It quit shooting and was taken off. I bought it and tried to revive it but it was shot out. While it shot, it was a barn burner. That being said, if your Kimber is doing what you say, I'd go to matches and learn to shoot the wind. You would be competitive at most registered matches and should be a winner at local "friendly" matches. Save the money for when you go whole hog and send it to a smith instead of a manufacturing company.

new bbl

I have been shooting a Pac-Nor on my 40X for 2 years now in ARA competitions. Half way through my second case of black box and add at least 2000 rnd of other ammo looking for what it likes best. I'll just say this I've got 3 Liljas, 2 Shilens and another Pac-nor barrel gun, when it does come time to rebarrel my ARA 40X it will be another Pac-Nor :D

Thanks for the validation of Pac-Nor rimfire barrels. I haven't been shooting "competitive" centerfire, but my friends who are competitive 1,000-yd shooters swear by their Pac-Nors. I just haven't heard anything about them in the rimfire world. Sounds like they get the job done. And the folks there are very customer-friendly....especially Penny. :)

I try to make my choices based on "equipment lists" not other peoples brand loyality. Look at what the winners are shooting.
