Are the Nightforce 12x42BR and the 12x42 NXS the same clarity wise? does 1 style track better ? If i can save 500 bones I'll use it on something else. From a compitition standpoit do I need the NXS?

The 6mmBR daily bulletin had a Shot Show report about the NightForce scopes on Jab 21, 2009. If you look look in their archives you can find it. As I recall the scopes are optically identical. The key difference is the parallex adjustment on the benchrest model is more precise and is not side focus, and the click on the elevation/windage are finer.

I have both and they appear to be exactly the same (clearity wise) to me. The NXS is more rugged looking (in the knobs) and is 1/4 minute click vs the 1/8 minute click on the BR.

I really like the NXS and would trade my 4 BR models in if I ever had the chance.

Hope that helps.

IMO if it is to be used for benchrest or F Class then the BR model is the way to go. If it is for tactical or hunting application then the NXS. Personally I do not want 1/4 minute clicks on a target scope where very precise adjustments are desired. The BR model is a bit heavier so if weight is an issue then the NXS might be used. Both are very good scopes but for my use I'll take the BR model.
