Opinions wanted...Kelbly vs. Jewel

I'm interested in opinions concerning the Kelbly trigger. What little I've heard is positive...very good repeatablity but a very different feel. Feel free to opine.

I have both, personaly prefer the Kelby. I have had zero issues with either unit. I will rank the Kelby damned close to the annie trigger on my 1808ed as far let-off both repeat perfectly and break like glass. The Jewel I can sometimes feel a bit before it breaks. The Jewel is on a xp100 action in 6ppc,that might be why. Kelby on a 40xrf.

The Kelbly is a very fine trigger and if your using an action that is based on the firing pin fall of a remington...around .250, I highly recommend it.

So with that said....should a person be using a Kelbly on a Swindlehurst instead of a Jewell?

I'm sure I would know what the answer would be from Kelblys.

I know nothing of Kelbly rimfire action. I did have an improvement in groups on a panda action by switching to the Kelbly trigger. The jewel I had on it did not time well and did not allow for enough firing pin travel. I use mainly jewel triggers on my BAT actions but they are designed for less travel. I personally like the feel of the Kelbly trigger better. It's just great to have options.

After reading the "how and why it was made" story, I wonder if there would be a problem putting it on any action except one of theirs. The Kelbly actions are apparently designed for more firing pin travel. What about other actions more or less designed around the Remington style trigger? Would it help to increase the travel on these, would it hurt, would it even make a difference.

The only action I have run into trouble with are BAT's. I had a suprise let off at the supershoot a few years ago when the new trigger came out. Good thing I was on the sighter and waiting for a condition change. I took it into the shop and they reset it and never had it fail again (I took it off a few weeks later). BAT's are designed with less spring tension and a shorter fall. I know that Nesika, Borden, Kelbly, Remington, and stiller actions have what I would call the traditional firing pin travel. After the supershoot, I called BAT and thats when I found out about the design difference. I've always meant to talk to Jim Kelbly and find out if they would make me a couple designed for the BAT but just never got around to it. If they would....it's all I would use.

They are wonderfull and wonderfully simple. I would, however, reccommend you make damn sure you get the proper pin size that sets the sear level as the are 4-5 different lenghts and often you want to try a couple sizes. The big plus is that they use no wound springs and a one piece body.
