I think I just got spammed for this product on another gun discussion site, and while I don't appreciate the method - the product has some merit in it's logic.

Basically it's a loaded spring cap that will not "fire" a projectile, but will render the firearm temporarily inoperable should anyone attempt to fire it. Anyone except those that know to remove it first that is. Personally I think their price point is about 3X too high, but that's just me. What do you think?

Looks to me like a case with rubber in it. Why couldnt you just make your own safty bullet? Buy some rubber bullets and fill in the primer pocket with seal all or something. Or just fill the case with epoxy.

Dan,

Reading further shows that the contraption is designed to spread open and lock the round into the chamber, to be released with a special tool.

My whole thing is (was ;)) about teaching CHILD SAFETY instead of continually coming up with tricks to fool the beautiful little tykes....

But oh well, we've only got less than two handsful in our house so whad'awe know?

While I agree with Al on this (hold on guys, don't pass out yet :D)
It's hard to effectively "Teach child safety" to children not raised in your household. It's possibly also hard to guarantee that a 2 year old (grand child, or child of a friend) won't try and teethe on your shiny Kimber.

I can see a distinct niche for this device. There are no "cure all"s, and education IS the best policy - but some are too young to learn or understand, and there are more "ignorant" people and children than are within our spheres of influence. So I can see how this would make a firearm "safe", while providing a very quick method for retuning it to "duty" as it were.

But I think he would make at least twice as much profit if the sales price was 1/3 as much as what he wants. At the current price - making your own copy is a pretty attractive option.

Snap Caps

I was able to pick up some snap caps to fit my 9, that does the same thing. The real benefit was they were only $3 each. Check out the local Gun Show, you'll find them there.

I hardly think that a snap cap does "Exactly" the same thing. But if it works for you, good deal.

There is no way I'd ever put one of them in my personal protection firearm. Why....very simply...It'll be the first thing you'll forget about when you really need to use the gun. Then your screwed. If your worried about visiting kids...then put the gun up. That's what I do. When I have family get togethers...I put the guns up. It's very simple. My kids were loading Benchrest ammo before they were seven. They know how to strip and clean a M16/AR15 also and they'll be learning the AK shortly (their 13 and 12 now). They have never touched a gun in the house without permission. How did I instill it....well, maybe the libs wouldn't like it but when they started crawling and I was watching TV, I'd put a rifle or pistol on the floor or table and every time they touched it...I smacked them. I didn't give a warning or say a word...just smack. You can ask either and they don't remember how they were trained but they have never had the urge to handle a gun without asking. How long did it take...I played the game for over a year.....best year of firearms training I ever gave them.

Was this gun safety device designed by Congress or the White House?
