Opinion on fast twists 6BR's

I got 4 6BR's all long range set-ups and all barrels are
8 twists.. None seem to shoot 87 vmax's or anyother
light varmint bullet very well. They will shoot 1/2 MOA but
I would like better, guess I'm spoiled w/ 1/4MOA or
less w/ heavy bullets==
Is this twist just too many rpm's or what..??
All rifles shoot 105-108 into bugholes but I want to use a
couple of them (light wt. varmint bullets)
for PDin' long range w/ the blowup
of a varmint bullet.. Is there such a thing as over
stabilization?? nothing under 95 shoot good except
80gr Fowlers and they don't expand well on PDs. Any
comments appreciated..
thanks

PS- none have tuners, so that's not it!!!!![g]

go lo

Hi Stoney...you are not low enuff yet...I consider the 85-87gr class of 6mm bullets for deer hunting--if they blew up shooting thru 1" of meat (PD carcass) the whole hunting world wuld be complaining...
Have u went lower than 80 gr???? you shuld try 60gr sierra or any of the 62-68 botique bullets...they have worked fine for me....Roger

I have gone as low as-

68 gr BR bullets and they shoot bug holes also , just don't open on PD's..
I tried 70 nosler BT, 75gr Vmax, 80 gr noslerBT, 70 gr sierrs BK, 87 vmaxs and all shoot around 1/2 MOA, I just want em to shoot like my 108 Bergers.. A pipe dream??
thanks Roger
hoping for more input
Doc

ur rite...

im an ole' pipe guy...its a "pipe dream" to get 4000fps--1/4 moa--kill deer--vaporize PD's --etc--etc ....just be glad you have a shootin iron that can hit em at 1000yds!!!!...they will die!!!!....trust me..ahhaha.......just go shoot and enjoy the time in the field with a great rifle.....Roger

Roger, an 87 V-Max will definitely blow up on a prairie dog. They will also not ricochet--pretty important when you're out in someone's pasture and not entirely sure where the cattle are at any given moment. They're also pretty decent in the wind.

Doc, you could try the 105 A-Max. You could also go all the way down to the 58 and 65 gr. V-Max. I've always found that I could get one of the V-Maxes to shoot pretty well, but never as well as a Berger.

I agree

I have killed a PD @ 850 yds w/ a 87 vmax out of a 6x47 Lapua
@ 3400 fps last summer. Rd mist city!! I just can;t seem to get them below 1/2 MOA.. in my 6BR 8 twists..I'll keep tryin' and will try 65 vmax's also as I have a box.. thanks much
Doc

70gr Nosler Ballistic tips, 68gr Berger MEF..............they'll put every other blowup you've seen to shame. Chunks will rotate clockwise.

Hmm, I've got a 6-284 6-twist coming here shortly. It's primary fodder is intended to be 105 A-Maxes, but I hope I can get it to shoot the V-Maxes. I guess we'll find out.

Guess I wasn't paying attention when I was typing yesterday. I meant 8-twist barrel.

Al, it's the A-Maxes I'm more worried about blowing up. Of course, if I really meant 6-twist, it'd probably rip most anything to shreds, except maybe a Scenar :)
