Thats great Joe! I still have some work to do to get my guns ready, as the switch to 20fpe and sandbag in front needs to be dealt with more thoroughly for me to be satisfied. I'm also working on my sub-12fpe rifle, and have no good idea on the score offset 12fpe might have (if any) copred to 20fpe.

I'm sure planning to attend soe matches at your fine range soon.

Thanks for your contribution to the sport!

Sincerely,

Larry Durham

Looking forward to having you here. I know what you mean, It's been tough getting our rim-fire barrels to stabilize these pellets under the 20fpe at 25m, definitely going to be interesting to say the least. So far it's one pellet that shows promise. Waiting on some different pellets to arrive and test. It's going to be fun either way.

Your Welcome,
Joe

You are reading this here for the first time (I think). A thought just popped into my hed and I'm writing it before I fergit: PAPER PATCH! Like the old target system of the early 1900's, we might could use a wrap of thin paper to "tighten up" pellet to barrel fit! Wrapped the right way, it would open up and blow off as the pellet exited. No leading, tight fit in rimmie barrel, all smiles, no?

What say?

Larry,

Sounds interesting, and appreciate the thought. It would be time consuming getting it right, especially with the shape of pellets, but I'm willing to give it a try with your help. I tested today in bad weather with switchy winds to 12 mph. I know there is one pellet that shows continued consistency and with very good results on paper with this barrel. I also found from testing with this profile barrel, the heavier the pellet the harder it is to stabilize under the 20fpe and at the 25m distance. At 50 yards the heavier pellets are more stable and show better results on paper.

I"m waiting for 5.54 and 5.55 H&N's to arrive to see if these make any difference. I've also located some old Eley Wasp in 5.6 to try also.

Thank You for the call last evening, it was a pleasure speaking with you, and your help answering my questions. When you come up to shoot, it will be nice to see Doug again, He's an excellent shooter.

Regards,

Joe

Gees Joe, a few of those dates conflict with ours. I sure hope we don't loose too many shooters who don't want to deal with the expected conditions up at Pinnacle and fly West out to Open Grove. Say, that might not be such a bad idea! Tell you what, why don't I just move all of ours out to your place, then problem solved. How does that sound?

Dave,

That would be wonderful, just need a plane to get you here and back. I do not envy the weather you folks will have to shoot in. I haven't decided yet to either raise the dome halfway or run 2 of the wind machines that stand close to the range. I think we will vote on it before our first match :D

Good luck with your matches Dave, and Merry Christmas.

Joe,

Two things we know for sure about going up to Pinnacle Mtn. during either Summer or Winter: It's going to be windier, and it's going to be cooler (or COLDER in this case) than down in the flat-lands.

You haven't begun to have fun until you've tried shooting any type of rifle configuration while you have absolutely no feeling in your fingers due to their near frost-bitten condition, but especially while trying to handle and single-load .177 caliber pellets, then turn around and try to control your ±2oz trigger. You also can't see clear enough to even begin to notice any mirage other than for that from the heat pouring out through the portholes as it's leaving the Shooting Shack and slams head-on into the frigid air beyond, and your eyes are watering so badly because of not only the cold and wind blowing straight into your face, but also because of trying to look through a 36X scope for ±30 minutes at a crack not only a white target, but also the snow-covered berm behind it reflecting back ±90% of the suns glare. They just don't make sunglasses strong enough to cover that kind of thing, other than for maybe welding goggles. Oh, and let's not forget about the wood stove which will be blazing away no more than 3 or 4 feet from your back-sides. Once we actually had one of our shooters get up after finishing a target only to find that he had blisters all over one of his cheeks, and I'm not talking about the ones on his face.

Yup, it's gonna be the type of fun I haven't experienced in many a year. Whooptie-friggen-do!

You think I'm kidding? Wait until after you read the comebacks from attendees after our first really cold and sunny day up here, especially if there's been a fresh snow-cover. You'll see! But, I can still say: Damn it's fun!!!!

Now I've gone and done it! You'll never want to head East to join us anytime soon.

Good luck with your "tough" conditions.:cool::cool:

Dave

Dave,

I know you aren't kidding, I've spoken with Al after the shoots. No I wouldn't visit in the winter, your weather and I wouldn't get along well. You should hear the guys here tease me when it's gets into the low 60's and 50's, there wearing t-shirts and I'm bundled up as if it was 20, guess I'm just warmblooded.

Have Fun and watch those Cheeks.
