Do you guys prefur sandbag or derlin on your one piece rests??????

I recently acquired a "wood front" from James Pappas for his one piece. I seem to prefer the Delrin for glass stocks and the wood front for wooden stocks. The wood front has small pads that allow my wood stocks to slide better than on Delrin, at least for me. Takes about a minute to change from one to the other so I continue to experiment. I do not have anything holding sand for the Pappas.

Something I learned last weekend. Do not use a bungee cord with glass stocks. Causes flippers.

I have one 40X in an original pattern wood stock that I like to shoot as a practice rifle. James sent me a complete sand top with the correct bag for my Pappas rest. Makes it quick to change from the delrin top that I use for my regular 40X that has a Kelby glass benchrest stock. Regards

Good question JAKirk, I hope I hope Bob will chime in and tell us a little more about that.

Bungee cord between trigger guard and front of rest. Purpose; to allow rifle to return to battery without assistance (and maybe to keep it from recoiling back as far). Shoot rifle free recoil. Experience: Shooting indoors saw my shots not all going into ten ring. Had someone watching me come up and say "the bungee cord is causing the fiberglass stock to bend a bit." Put bungee cord in my pocket. Result; all shots start going into ten ring. Epilogue; threw the damn bungee cord in trash.

This was at Piney Hill last weekend. My "observer" was a well known gunsmith and shooter. My misses last weekend were my fault, not that of the bungee cord. I did not set one of the many world records....I shot 249's. bob finger
