One Piece Rest with leather/cordura sand filled top?????

I have a one piece rest but the sides are a plastic insert in a spring loaded retainer which does a great job of keeping the gun from moving but these plastic (delrin) inserts are starting to indent my wood stock.

Would it be possible to replace these side retainers and the base delrin balls with a leather/cordura front bag/rest filled with sand?

Has anyone done this or does anyone offer this as a replacement?

My one piece rest is a Von Arens---age unknown but works perfectly
Shooting 22 rimfire-ARA Matches
Gun is typical 22 rimfire benchrest gun--3 inch forearm

Thanks for any help or reccomendations,

Several people use a set up like that. Kirk Gaskin and Fred Leads are a couple of names that come to mind so it obviously works well. James Papas offers it as an option on his rests and I think you could substitute a sandbag top onto your Von Arens without any trouble.

As Don indicated James Pappas makes multiply tops for his line of rests plus has another option I'm aware of that works well with wooden stocks.

Check out the pictures at the following link. http://www.killoughshootingsports.com/Webs/Rests.html

The picture at the top right is the bag version and the picture at the bottom left is another one he does for wooden stocks. He may be able to make something for you. Alan Hall who's making the Von Arens style rest also may have some options.
