what is the advantage of a turbo or hall action over a anshutz 54 or 52 winchester, or remington 40x , old school action?

The right barrel and set up properly any of them will win.

There are features with the turbo and hall but the main is that you start off your benchrest rifle with an action that everything is square and machined to more exact tolerances.

From a cost standpont, you normally have to buy a complete rifle many times $700 to $1,000 and start tearing it apart. When you could buy a custom action for a little over $1,000 to start your build and the resale will normally be higher.

There are many pluses with all of the custom and what you call old school actions that make each of them stand out. But hopefully someone will jump in and give you more specifics.

For me personally, I want something easy and quck to load. My favorite is the Swindlehurst and the Anschutz 54 but since the Swindlehurst is no longer made so would probably consider a hall for the loading reason. But wouldn't think twice about haveing another Anschutz built if I had an action laying arounnd.

Adding on to what Charlie mentioned; The trigger is a key. You cannot put a 5018 Anschutz on a Turbo or Hall. 52 Triggers can be reworked but they are almost never up to 5018 standards. Jewell triggers go in the Turbo or Hall and seem to be the defacto standard for br triggers today. Jewell also can go on a 40X.

Me, I'm a Remington 37 fan. But the rifle is not nearly as good without a Kenyon trigger. Canjar comes close but it ain't no Kenyon. I have several 37's that don't get shot much because of the triggers. After much hassle and several rifles I am contemplating building my next heavy rifle using either a Hall or Anschutz 54 action.

One other point to consider. No matter how much I have put into those 37's they seem to be worth about $1000 if I were to sell em. bob

From what I have seen the Turbo and the Hall are based on the Remington 40X with refinements.

It is easier to copy and improve than to create and it is the highest form of a complement.

Bill: I always thought the Turbo was based on the Winchester 52 action. Perhaps we should seek out Flash to settle this one? bob

I really don't know Bob. It is kinda looks like a dolled up 40X but it might have been a Marlin copy for all I know.:)

I know that they both work good.

factory actions have bugs needin debuggin ..who would need a custom if the factory took all the bugs out:D
