Old timers look at this hybrid.

It's hard to tell exactly what action it has, but if the action is stamped Springfield 1898 it's a Krag, and definitely NOT a strong action. The max pressures on Krags is something in the low to mid 40kpsi area, and if loaded too hot things could get rapidly out of hand. A .219 Imp Zipper in a Krag action would likely be about equal to a .223 Rem in ballistics unless the shooter wanted to wear the bolt through his head.

The Improved Zipper was probably popular back when Zipper ammo was factory loaded, but now would require necking down .30-30 cases and be a pain in the tail when other factory made cases are available, like the .22-250, or simpler wildcats like the .22 BR or .223 Ackley Improved. Factory .219 ammo can be fired in an improved chamber which will blow out the case to fit the improved chamber.

If the rifle belonged to me I'd either keep it as a historical item or sell it to a collector.

Correct 1898 Springfield makes it a Krag. SINGLE locking lug. Service ammo was loaded to 38,000 lbs per sq inch. REALLY should not be shooting it, the .219 is going to be way above that.

A left-handed bullpup with a right handed action. The last thing I'd want is a bullpup that puts my eye beside the ejection port of a weak action with controlled feed. No way.

John Kielly,

Go back and read all the posts and you will be surprised who it is thought built the rifle?

doesnt matter who built it, i would not stick my face next to the ejection port, nor have that bolt handle stuck in the back of my neck. who ever built that thing should have been slapped.

???? Springfield

I may be mistaken, but by the appearance of the cocking piece, safety and hand cocking knob i would say it was on an 03 Springfield action. i just didnt see the bolt stop tab on the left side of the action like my 03a3 has. Greg Moyer
