my first post, hope i get it right.
i'm heading to the barn the first week of feb for a match-psl -i think it's called. been reading match results and evidently some do it better than others. having never shot indoors, i would really appreciate about 50% of the top thirty five respond with a tip or two about how its done.
joe redshoes [his friends call him fuzzy] keeps telling me to aim at the middle and turn it loose, but he always says that.
so if any of you have the time or inclination to rsvp it would be appreciated.
looking forward to seeing some of you in feb.
thanks...fred

1. Eat mor Beef and pray to the poultry gods.

2. Make sure your rifle is tuned

3. Try to read the tendancy from bull to bull and hold off

4. Make sure your rifle is tuned

I'm not in 50% of the the top 35 yet, so take this with a grain of salt, but I have shot in the barn.

thanks jeff-all help is appreciated
i've never killed a chicken on purpose, but i have arrowed a couple of gobblers, i'll try to be a better person...........fred;)

Go on Thursday and talk to a couple of shooters (like me) that come early.
Come early Friday and stay late and talk to some more shooters who turn up.
Stay after the match on Sat and talk & shoot & Ask & Shoot till you are blue in the face!
Thats the only way to learn!
Then when it is all done ask when the next match is and Ask and Shoot and Ask and Shoot ETC

well here we go and this is MY OPINION on this matter,,,,
if gun is truely tuned to some good ammo and the indoors are sealed from the wind .
JUST HOLD ON THE DOT........HOLD ON THE DOT..HOLD ON THE DOT.
THERE ARE NO WIND TO BLOW YOU AROUND,, sometimes you get mirage from the lights and heaters . It is one good way of shooting better than average scores by shooting indoors..... i am testing indoors as we speak in denver, colorado. it is -3 degress outside and we are 65 indoors. absolutely no skill in shooting indoors. not much of a challange to me , i think it is an ego booster to some shooters ...Just my opinion.....
go have fun and try it out, and compare your scores to the rest of the field , remember HOLD ON THE DOT...:D:D

Shooting indoors is different. The outdoor ARA Nationals aggs were about 100 points less than at the indoor nationals. I do believe that like Scotty said, indoors is a great deal more about tuning your gun. I think indoors you find out how good your gun really is. With that being said, it can be extremely frustrating. Darrel Barnes gun shot great indoors in Oklahoma. Friday before the match Darrel shoots a 2500, then the next 2 days the best that gun will do is a 2300. So, who knows what is really going on.

2 things I know for sure.

1. You must have you scope zeroed in perfectly. That is a little harder than it seems.
2. If you are going along taking the dot out and suddenly you have one fly off. Go Immediately to the sighter, and I mean Immediately. Shoot sighters until it calms down. The barn does have some air movement. I do not know if it is enough to move the bullet, but some strange things happen in the barn.

Also, do as Doug said. Come early and shoot a bunch.

Hope this helps.

thanks doug and scotty.
got a bunch of killough's eley and old joe red shoes been hollerin at me and its hard for and old br 50 recluse to come up out of the ashes. trying to do it one more time. it may not work, but i'm comin'. kinda tired of gettin beat by old ladies and small children. anyway, thanks for the help.
just so you'al know.......somebody's got a real secret and you might as well fess up now. we're gonna find out anyway.............fred

hi dan and thanks.
as slow as i type, you were sending help and i didn't see it till after i posted.
shooters are good folks, sorry some politicians can't seem to get it. don't forget to bring the ammo to the barn, somebody told me to get there early and shoot alot..............fred

Just hold on the dot indoors

Scotty,
i won the indoor nationals last year at the barn.and i will have to say you just don't hold on the dot.even if your gun is in fine tune you still don't just hold on the dot.there is a little more to it than that.the main thing i would say is you got to have the right speed ammo for the conditions at the time when you are shooting.and the last day of the nationals when i shot the nationals last year i had to chase each target i shot.i used the same ammo both days but the second day i had a really hard time.the bullet would not always go where i wanted it to,but i ended up winning,i had a really good turbo i tried to shoot there for several hours but i could not get it to do as well as i wanted it to.so mr.william poff let me borrow his gold plated 40x.i got a brick of 1031 speed black box eley from mr.bob collins and i started shooting...everything came togather.ammo, gun and shooter. My agg was around 2368 or so im not really sure but i did agg high for me.i did not just shoot the dot.alot of times i had to chase the dot.im sure danny did not just shoot the dot either.i think if the barn was alot tighter it would be easier to shoot there.i also think if you dont have the right speed ammo you want shoot worth a flip even if your gun is in fine tune.thanks larry cook....

Mr. Larry Cook..........thank you
i would like to see this pursued just a little. does bullet speed make a real difference because it's indoors or is it just the slow boil from the heat. how does that work?
