delitermar:

I have a two "old targets" which I would be willing to forward. Not sure from your description if either is what you want (the 'original BR-50' target). I will try to describe them below. If either is what you are looking for, let me know.

1st one: It is labeled "Rimfire Benchrest" and off to the side "official target". Four sighters at the top, five down each side, and five at the bottom. There are 25 scoring targets and the bull is about 3/16". There is no indication of the scoring method. The scoring rings are similar to IR 505/50, but have only 6 rings. Full size of paper is 14 1/2" W by 17 1/2 " H. I would describe the paper as close to NRA style, but a bit better.

2nd one: It is labeled "BR-50 International". Copyright is dated 1969. The target was used for Centerfire at 100 yards, Rimfire at 50 yards, and Air Rifle at 25 years. The bull is 3/8". There are fifty scoring targets grouped as 5 per block within 10 blocks. The scoring rings, and scoring method, are virtually identical with the ARA target. Scoring is the outer edge. If you touch the line you get a full score of 100, but if you break the line, your score drops to 50. Full size of target is 14 1/2" W x 11" H. Grade of paper is bit better than NRA targets.

Best wishes finding the target, Doug Miller

Hi Doug, thank you so much for your responce, guess what happened ! as I was going over the description of your targets i got out my ruler and i thought that your's was a bit large so i had my wife come in and take a look at them.she lefe and came back and said i found these with some other old targets, she had -you won't belive this -she had a dozen of the real deals.i about fell out of my chair...these are for your info 81/2 "x11" on old NRA type of paper. center bull 1/4" that would be the 100 ring.so the i will be running down to office depot and get some copies made. the next mach i will whip these out and show them what started this benchrest game.Larry Brown not with us any more but the fun goes on.I just want to thank you so much for all your help and time on this. deliterman.

delitermar,

Life is full of good surprises. Congratulations to you and your wife for finding those vintage originals. Enjoy shooting on the replicated targets, or just showing them. As you noted, they were the start of this fun game.
If you intend to use them, sure you will use better stock than the old NRA type paper. Office Depot out to have vellum grade paper, which works pretty well. Remember how much fun those originals were to score and plug? If it rained, it was an impossible job.
Best wishes, and cheers for the good find, Doug Miller

Thanks for all your help Doug- that's some good info on makeing the copy better. I will sprint down to office depot 1st thing monday. it should be cooler by monday, it's been 103 deg's here the last few day's with some rain mixed in to make nice and humid out side....it's been good talking with you.:) we have been shooting this BR-50 target (the new one) once a month at the range useing air guns @25 yds. that sure saves on .22 ammo!! I shot .22RF ARA last week and i was down to the bottom of my ammo box...going to have to find some new .22 ammo !! again thanks.
