I just downloaded the beta version of Google Chrome, their new browser (starting from the Google search web page). Man oh man! (pardon the Calfeeism) does it load and bring up pages fast. Since we are on the internet, I thought a tip of this sort might not be too out of line. (I have 2.5 meg. DSL)

PS Unless Wilbur has added it, I am getting my spelling checked as I compose this, with the red squiggly lines and drop down alternative spellings/words, just like a word processing program. This is major. It will save me a lot of time, since I won't have to cut and paste into another program to check spellling (and reverse the process to bring it back).
 
Boyd, I tried Chrome a couple of days ago and did not see much difference in speed from the Mozilla Firefox that I use. I try to avoid Internet Explorer as much as possible unless a site demands it, but that is less a problem than some year ago. Yes, IE may be slower. If you have not tried Firefox, the new 3.0 version is at:

Firefox also supports the spell check as you go. Chrome did not seem to be nearly as customizable as Firefox.

Jeff,

It is less "crash prone" than Firefox, but doesn't have all of the add-ons...yet...

I've been using it for about a week and it seems faster than both Firefox and IE on the two systems where I've tried it...

IMHO, it's better to go with another browser. I just don't trust Google; their track record for trying to keep information on people makes me wary. I'm an Opera fan-- it's still one of the fastest browsers out there (other than Chrome and maybe Safari) and doesn't suffer from memory leaks as badly as IE and Firefox.

I tried Chrome and soon deleted it. It was calling home much too often. If you do not know how to monitor when your applications are using the internet without your knowledge, you need some education on this topic. Firefox 3 is just as fast and has many more add-ons that make browsing much easier.
 
It's Opera for me

too. I avoid IE if at all possible -- too many security problems. I, too, do not trust Google. They just seem much, much too hungry for data -- yours and mine -- and I don't trust them with mine.

I run Opera on both my MS Windows machine and my Linux WS/Server. It's fast and very configurable. I've tried the others hoping to find something better but keep going back to Opera.

Thanks for the info Boyd, but Chrome is not MAC ready yet so I can't try it. But...I'm very satisfied with FireFox so I guess I'll stick with it.

Agreed...

Spyware is easy to turn off in Opera and you can also clone most other browser's, if a site demands IE for example.

My partner uses firefox. I've deleted IE from my windows PC :cool:
