Octagon Barrel Source

A few years ago, I had a 338 Gibbs build with an octagon barrel on a Ruger No 1.

I currently have another No 1 in 270 Win that I am considering a new barrel for. I would love to have a matching pair.

I am looking for a octagon barrel (cut rifling), any suggestions?

Also, who is doing good work on No 1s these days?

Try Penrod Precision. 260-982-8385

I had him do a complex job on a 40x rimfire rec and was totally pleased with the outcome. When the rec came back he had included a price sheet and a 'postcard' with color pics of some of his work. Number 1's are one of his specialities.

Octogon Barrel..

Any gunsmith who specializes in rebarreling can do the job. Montana Rifle company sells Octogon barrels as does Brownells. Mark Stratton specializes in Octogon barrels. He hangs out over at the accurate reloading website.

Thanks,

Thanks guys for the responses.

I took a look at the Badger web site, liked what I seen. I am going to give him a call Monday.

I had an octagon done years ago by a guy that said he knew what he was doing, yea right. When he got done, the barrel looked like a pretzel. Never even bothered putting it on.

Like Fluting, if you don't know what you are doing, STOP..... lol

I will add James Anderson[gunmaker] on this board. He has done a half octagon for me and will get another soon for the full octagon treatment. James is a member of the American Custom Gunmakers Guild.

I would put up another vote for Badger. My dad put one on a number one he chambered in a 338-06 ackley. If my memory is correct it was a 28 inch full octagon, it looks great and shoots better.

i used wind river for a octagon mauser project. i don't know if they use cut rifling but they are more economical than the others. i wasn't looking for the cheapest when i had it done but i'm happy with it & they will be doing a half round 9.3x62mm barrel soon.
a couple pics of the project, 6.5x55 with a dwm gew 98 reciver. receiver & bottom metal will be color case hardened after everything is fitted
