guys,
i have shot some br and some 600 yd matches but i am currently looking at a 1000yd gun. i plan to build it myself. two of the rounds i am looking at are the 300 win mag and the 7mm rem mag.
what kind of oal are being used with these two and with what bullet ?

i have a donor 700 rem lefthand action, plan on a kreiger bbl, no idea on stock, still looking for a budget scope...not a cheap, just limited dollars.

thanks....just my continuing search....

Your OAL is going to affected by the bullet you use. Typically, most BR rifles like seem to like the bullet seated from 0.015" off the lands to a soft jam into the lands. If you are havent got a reamer yet, Pacific, Manson, and so forth will work with you to grind the reamer with the freebore for the bullet you are planning to use. Otherwise, you can get a reamer with very minimal freebore and a throating reamer and throat it out once you decide where you want the bullet to sit in the case.

I would lean to the 300WinMag, much broader bullet selection in 30 then 7mm. Been there, done that.

Take care
Rob

i'm more curious about actual oal's....how much longer than saami. just how much lenght is used to add case volume....
as an example( from software)
a 300 win mag with a moly 210 berger with 81 gr of ramshot magnum produces just over 3000 fps from a 30" bbl...the oal in this case is 3.600.
is this reasonable number ?( its full bore seating, plus the boattail)
thanks
mike

300 win mag oal

I have this gun set up to shoot 210 VLDs with 71gr reloader 22 at 2910fps. this about the limit for my 28in bbl. oal is 3.06 to the ogive. which the 3.6 should be right on that you talked about earlier.
