When Oak Hills Gun Club of Blue Grass Iowa decided to host .22 benchrest matches this year, we wanted to shoot formal ARA matches, but we also wanted to attract informal shooters. So we shoot both types of matches simultaneously on the same range. The informal shooters have the opportunity to see benchrest equipment and ask lots of questions, but they only have to compete against equipment similar to theirs. (Thanks to Joe Haller for providint such excellent info on informal matches.) We currently have three informal classifications --- sporter, semiauto, and vintage. Our rules aren't identical to Joe's, but they're similar. We shoot the ARA matches at 50 yards (naturally); but all the informal matches are at 25 yards.
Saturday, we hosted our third match of the year. We had eight ARA shooters and eight informal shooters --- our biggest turnout of the year.
ARA scores were:
Cecil (Doc) Peterson ---------- 2066
Brian Voelker ------------------ 2046
Ron Elbe ---------------------- 1963
Dan White -------------------- 1960
Barb Nicewanner -------------- 1745
Chuck Golliher ----------------- 1602
Neal McKamey ----------------- 1594
Bob Nicewanner ---------------- 1541
INFORMAL scores were:
SPORTER:
Ron Moore ---------------------1313
Matt More ---------------------1152
Dean Enfield -------------------1045
Gary Woodworth ---------------1033
Scott Morray ------------------497
SEMIAUTO:
Kevin Cole ---------------------563
Mike Craig ---------------------358
VINTAGE:
Jerry King ------------------------1958
The Oak Hills range sits in the bottom of a wooded valley surrounded on all four sides by timber. The wind never blows a gale. However, it switches and swirls. The shooters find it particularly challenging.
This match was made possible by the hard work of Jim Schmidt, Doc Peterson, and Jerry King. A big thanks to them.
