Air Gun Shooters,

The 4th Annual “Noel Vaughn Memorial Match” was a great success with nineteen air gunners showing up to test their skill and maybe some luck.

The shooters all arrived on time and the match went smoothly. Bill Quick had the “Golden Cuspidor” sitting on his bench during the match since he was the October 2014 match winner with a score of 1,000-70x.

The Vaughn family was represented by Ellen (Noel’s daughter) who came to assist and show support for this event. Ellen checked the math and recorded the scores.

Ted Miles brought cookies, sodas, and coffee for everyone. In addition to Ted’s goodies Carol Brown came with brownies, yummy. She left with an empty container. Thank You Both!

After shooting target #2 there was a break. During the break there was a drawing for prizes. Prizes were donated by Harvey Gertson, John Mickel, Gerry Smith and JD (John Dodge). Thank you guys. The prizes varied between a ‘Pellcan’ pellet tin, pellets, flashlights, knives, tape measure, tool box, travel alarm clock, etc. Everyone had the opportunity to select a prize.

There were some close score between shooters. Medals with ribbons were given out for Match Winner and 1st through 4th place in PCP and 1st through 4th in Springer Class. The lovely Ellen Vaughn did the presenting of awards to the winners.

There were six perfect 250 out of 250 scores shot at the match. They were shot by Mark Burns and John Calhoun. Fine shooting.

There were seven 249 out of 250 shot by John Mickel, Dave Zinski, JD and John Calhoun.

Rumors have it that a shooter shot put a pellet that was in backwards and another shooter shot two pellets at once. These things happen.

Tim Wilson and Ron Hanson were new shooters at this event. Glad you came. Tim shot a decent 983-41x. Ron was sorting out which rifle and pellets to use and just practiced.

Mark Burns was the match winner with a score of 1,000-64x. Great shooting Mark. This was Mark’s third 1,000 score. Maybe it’s time for Mark to shoot a Springer.

1st Place PCP went to John Calhoun with a 997-57x. John Mickel took 2nd Place PCP with his 995-50x. There was a tie for 3rd Place PCP between Gerry Smith and JD Dodge who both had a 987 but Gerry took the 3rd spot on “x” count with 52x and JD was 4th PCP with 41x.

In the Springer Class Dave Zinski was 1st with a 988-37x. Nice going Dave. Second Place Springer went to Harvey Gertson with a 984-55x. 3rd Place Springer went to Walt Schumacher with a 982-45x and 4th Place Springer was Jim Benson with a 942-23x.

Equipment:
Mark Burns shot an Anschutz 8002 with Qiang Yuan (Red box) 8.2 gr. pellets at 575 fps. John Calhoun shot an AA EV2 using JSB 8.4 gr. pellets at around 780 fps. John Mickel shot a SM GC-2 using JSB 7.9 gr. pellets at 840 fps. Gerry Smith shot an Anschutz 2002 with Qiang Yuan pellets at 585 fps. JD shot an AA EV2 with AA pellets.

Dave Zinski shot a Feinwerkbau (FWB) 300S using JSB 7.33 gr. pellets at 570 fps. Harvey Gertson shot a Feinwerkbau (FWB) 300 with Tyrolean stock, using Qiang Yuan (Red box) 8.2 gr. pellets at 640 fps. Walt Schumacher shot a FWB 300S with JSB Express 7.9 gr. pellets running 585 fps. Jim Benson also shot a FWB 300 using JSB Express 7.9 gr. pellets going 550 fps.

The targets were scored during the event by Gary Thorson, Dale Gigstead and Mike Hadley with Ellen Vaughn checking math. Great work everyone and a BIG Thank You. All four received a gift for their assistance.

Thanks to all who assisted with the various duties (like bringing in wood for the stoves), Sue Vogel and Carol Brown who took photos and the Shooters themselves for attending.

The next Indoor Air Rifle Benchrest Match is Saturday December 20, 2014. Mark Burns will be the “Golden Cuspidor” Holder at this match.
