The 3rd Annual “Noel Vaughn Memorial Match” was a great success with seventeen air gunners showing up to test their skill and maybe some luck.
The shooters all arrived on time and the match went smoothly. Bill Quick had the “Golden Cuspidor” sitting on his bench during the match since he was the October
2013 match winner with a score of 995-60x.
The Vaughn family was represented by Johanna (Noel’s widow) and Ellen (Noel daughter) who came to assist and show support for this event. Ellen checked the math
and recorded the scores. Johanna organized the targets and provided other assistance.
After shooting target #2 there was a break/recess where Harry Rayment’s lovely wife Faye surprised us with soup, chicken and homemade bread (yum, yum).
Thank you Faye and Harry.
Also during the break there was a drawing for prizes. Prizes were donated by Harvey Gertson, John Mickel, Gerry Smith and JD (John Dodge). Thank you guys. The
prizes varied between a ‘Pellcan’ pellet tin, pellets (JSB & Finale Match), level, bore light, flashlights, knives, stylus pen, tape measure, pocket magnifier, etc. Everyone
received a prize.
The scores overall were excellent. Medals with ribbons were given out for Match Winner and 1st through 4th place in PCP and 1st through 3rd in Springer Class.
Ellen Vaughn did the presenting of awards to the winners.
There were six perfect 250 out of 250 scores shot at the match. They were shot by JD, Bill Quick, John Calhoun, Dave Brown and Harry Rayment. Nice going.
JD was the match winner with a score of 997-58x. JD also won the match last year. Great shooting JD.
Not far behind JD was a three way tie for second best score. Bill Quick, John Calhoun and Dave Brown all shot a 995. The ‘x’ count decided the order placement with
Bill Quick taking 1st Place PCP with 995-65x (highest ‘x’ count of the day) and John Calhoun taking 2nd Place PCP with his 995-58x and Dave Brown taking 3rd Place
PCP with a 995-48x. Harry Rayment took 4th PlacePCP with a 991-53x.
In the Springer Class Harvey Gertson was 1st with a 990-60x (second highest ‘x’ count). Second Springer went to Walt Schumacher with a 985-42x and Third
Springer was Jim Benson with a 984-54x.

Equipment:
JD shot an AA EV2 with AA 8.4 gr. pellets at 780 fps. Bill Quick shot a Walther LG 200 (rifle had belonged to Noel Vaughn) using H&N FMR 8.2 gr. pellets with velocity
of 560 fps. John Calhoun shot an AA EV2 using JSB 8.4 gr. pellets at around 780 fps. Dave Brown shot an AA EV2 with JSB 8.4 gr. pellets at 800 fps. Harry Rayment
used an Anschutz 2002 and Nygord pellets.
Harvey Gertson shot a Feinwerkbau (FWB) 300 with Tyrolean stock, using Qiang Yuan (Red box) 8.2 gr. pellets at 640 fps. Walt Schumacher shot a FWB 300 with JSB
Express 7.9 gr. pellets running 625 fps. Jim Benson also shot a FWB 300 using JSB Match pellets going 565 fps.
The targets were scored during the event by Gary Thorson, Dale Gigstead and Mike Hadley with Ellen Vaughn checking math.
Great work everyone and a BIG Thank You.
Also thanks to all who assisted with the various duties and the Shooters themselves for attending.
The next Indoor Air Rifle Benchrest Match is Saturday December 21, 2013. JD will be the “Golden Cuspidor” Holder at this match.

Harvey,

Excellent turnout and excellent scores. It's obvious everybody must have had a great time with some good food helping to tide them over.
