Didn't have anything to do today so played a bit.........
I put my reverse taper as i call it back on my Kimber -this time with the 5 OZ Time Tuner i got from Fred J. This is an overstock item from Green Mt bbls for 22 mag. It's a 14 1/2 twist running boar bbl. I had cut the chamber off and crowned it them fliped it around and chambered the orignal outlet. Not bad for a cheepie reverse taper ss bbl @ $79 bucks.

Got dark on me but with several tuner adjustments i got to here with SK Standard Plus ammo. I'm about 15 clicks out on the Time. I'm going to make another top for my rest for the Kimber.... kinda teter-totting on my temp block of aluminum.
just some -sperimenting.................. joe:)

hey Joe, is there a few extra holes in that door??????? sure looks like some sunlight coming in, looks like 30 caliber holes. lol........

hmm reminds me of a friend who shot his wall with his pellet gun.
ohh now i remember.

well.............
when your in the "heat of battle" and you run in to get some talcum powder.....
my neat little talcum dispenser is full of rosin.... i do look good rosinin up my action wrench bushings though, lol joe

You totally lost me in the other thread, lol joe

I changed that thread,I jumbled what I was trying to say. what I was trying to say, keep the barrel profile all the way to the muzzle with the flats and reverse taper, just modify the tuner collar to match the flats of the barrel.

Kimber -reverse taper bbl (my design) Got a running Boar from Green Mountain ( http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/catalog.aspx?catid=runningboarweightedmuzzlestylebarrel )(my barrel is no longer on sale) , 22 mag with 141/2 twist on sale for 79 bucks. Cut off the chamber and crowned -retreaded the muzzle for the Kimber. The newest 5 shot 50 yard group shot today is a .104. With the liter bbl i shot this with a 2oz weight on the bbl before bullet exit with a counter bore. The counter bore is like a weight after bullet exit...

With SK Standard Plus ammo sometimes the groups open up but i can usually see it on the chrony. Red Box and team shoot like crap in the bbl! Today i notice the SK seems to have a louder crack then the Eley even though the exit speed is damn near the same. The louder "report" or crack just seems an octave higher in sound..... Maybe the SK vibrates the barrel a bit difference -i don't know but i think it does.

SK+ is made by Lapua and i imagine a different powder is used other than what Eley uses. I think the SK smells the best, lol!

Mr Nobody you and everyone else will believe what they want- i cannot change that. I am not out to change the world -i report what i find in my rimfire adventures. My results are true from what i have done. I can't afford to shoot the Eley, maybe just every now and then. Most of my testing is down with SK Standard plus. Not all groups are killer i get some "flyers" in the SK....... but i get enough groups like today i can tell when i'm going in the right direction. When i get lost and all the groups open up a lot!!!

My rimfire quest is not with you or anyone else, It's just me and the target. I'm 62 and this hobby is easy for me and helps keep my mind active.......... i changed to a better rest today for my Kimber - a lot lower rest.... first shot i shot a hole in my chrony and bent a spoke, bent my truck door yesterday and my memory chip for my camera broke a small piece off that lodged into the slot when i went to take pics... My friend ground down a pic and fished out the plastic piece but also brought out the small wire that pops out the memory card -but it back to working.... and today i got in a hurry and broke a drill bit off in an aluminum bore guide i made for my Kimber - needles to say "it has been my turn in the barrel" yesterday and today, lol.
like i said i'm just xperminting............. joe

Joe,

I heard that 22 Mag barrels are larger than 22LR. Have you slugged that barrel, and if so, what did it mic?

Thanks,
Jim

No i had not slugged the bbl-but now i have .. :interesting:
I'm not an expert at slugging -maybe the 10th bbl i have ever done. I can look at the grove engraving and can say the groves are not as deep as my tight bore stuff. I will try and slug a tight bore later on today for a comparison.

I ran 2 slugs down the bore and measured this .2232 is the widest point- and i could feel a tight spot just before exit. Don't know why other than the small dia barrel increases to .920 before exit.

I'll have to do more slugging but does this mean it is "loose" just before exit where it tightens up??? I want to add i slugged the barrel with out the tuner installed.

James thanks for the excellent question. (you can see the bbl profile in the first pic)........ joe

Try this...

Joe,

The ones I have slugged are around .2220", plus or minus a few tenths. Sounds like you're experiment with a "MI" barrel.

Start a slug a few inches into the breech. You should then bump it up to be sure it expands to the groove size. Then push it out from the muzzle end and mic it. This will tell how big it is before the tight spot.

Thanks for reporting.

Ineresting you should say this Joe, because I too find Lapua made ammunition to work quite well. I mainly shoot Lapua Midas + and at both 50yds and 100yds it does as well as Eley, at least in my two rifles. My next adventure will be to chronograph the two best shooting ammo lots I have to see if there is much speed difference. The two best lots are from one of each: Lapua and Eley Team.

Cheers and thanks for sharing,

-Michael
