Nosler ZIPEDO Bullets ?

Recently I purchased 5 boxes, of these apparently Old Nosler Zipedo .22 cal 55 gr. bullets at a local Estate Auction.
Can anyone give me any info on them ?
I'm guessing they weren't very popular.

They vary in diameter, and the rings are the widest.

Persistent ! 😊

I did, a Google search, and found very little.
The Zipedos were discontinued in the early 70s, according to some.

That probably spells the reason, why there is little on the net.
Maybe if someone could refer me to some old magazine articles, that might be helpful ?

Thanks !

Jim

Apparently you edited your fist post and deleted "Zipedo" (however, I'm not sure why an "edit" notation doesn't show). Nevertheless, a Google search of "Nosler Zipedo bullets" shows several first-hand experiences. Good luck with your search, and I'll back-out of here now.

I must have omitted Zipedo, when I first typed my post.
I corrected it Thanks.
I did find a little more info.
It seems they were "Turned" with a solid base.
One poster stated the need, to bell the case mouth, to avoid distorting the ribs, while loading.
There were a few positive remarks about them, but the cost of production might have been to high, for Nosler to continue their manufacture.
Another note on the performance, was they held together, exiting the game on the other side.
Thanks Hunter for prompting a search.

I may try and load a few.

These were my favorite bullets for taking Whitetail DeerL. I killed many deer with them in a ..220 Swift. All were instant kills! They penetrated very well and never came apart. They had a solid copper base that retained the lead core perfectly. Most of my shots were about 100 yards and in the heart area. I used load of 4064 at +3900 fps.

If I still hunted, I would try to get a box from you. I have not seen them for sale since perhaps the 60’s. If you have a hot .22 give them a try. They shot 3/4” groups in my 1936 Winchester M70 serial number 4XXX. That gun is a magic wand!

Stay well,

Frank

Thanks Frank !

So how did you load them ?

Did you bell the case mouths ? I can see it might reduce deformation of the rings.
And how deep did you seat them ?

I'll probably start with loading a few for a 223.
I found a few more boxes, that weren't marked Zipedo, but appear to have the same rings.

Hi Jim:

No I did not bell the case mouths. I just seated them to be a little bit off of the rifling. I used standard RCBS die’s circa 1963.

If I were you, I would find .220 Swift! Every rifleman should use a Swift once in their lifetime! You have to experience the magic that a Swift provides. I have made fantastic shots with the Swift. To use those Zipedo bullets in. 223 Rem would be a cardinal sin!

I have no knowledge of your location or what your quarry is, but from crows to deer, the Swift is the King!

Stay well,

Frank
