I envy those of my friends who will be attending the North East Regionals next weekend, the 30th and 31st, in Salem, NY. Todd goes all out to put on a great match along with having plenty of good foods and a very nice array of plaques for the winners, plus give-aways to help keep everyone happy.
This year will have something different! Todd has coordinated with 3 or 4 of the Philippine shooters to be there, so this years event will definitely have more of an International flare to it, along with showcasing some equipment that is "foreign" to most of us. That in itself would make the trip worthwhile.
The range is a great place to test your abilities as you can go from shooting one target under very pleasant conditions straight over to the next having some of the most challenging conditions there are. But, all in all, it's a fun place to be. You are shooting over manicured grasses with ample area under tents and behind the Firing Line for working on your equipment when not at the bench.
It is a match I have always looked forward to right down to even the drive to and from as the way I go you are not traveling along at 70 MPH on highways, but instead are driving through a few of the most picturesque New England cities and towns, which changes in an instant to being extremely scenic farmlands for the last 40 or so miles. And, if that sounds too boring, you have the choice of shifting your trip about 20 miles to the north, then going through a couple of ski resorts. Take your pick. Sometimes I'll go wout one way, then come back the other.
But, sadly, this year I'll have to pass on the Big Show due to a few lingering health issues. Maybe next year?
To those of you who are going: keep 'em all in the middle.
