Noga magnetic bases

Gents,

Noga magnetic bases for holding indicators have got pretty high marks on this forum. I got a flyer from MSC yesterday and Noga's are on sale for some pretty decent prices. Just thought I would pass it along.

Now...they make bases that have the fine adjustment on the top of the arm, or that have the adjustment on the base. Is there any advantage of one over the other? What do you guys prefer? And finally, what size do you guys recommend for barreling and such?

Thanks,
Justin

I have a few NOGA holders, a couple of MG10533 w/base adjustment and one MA61003 w/top adjustment. I seem to prefer the base adjustment a little more because when adjusting you don't get any hand induced wiggling of the indicator like the top adjust. The advantage of the top adjust is it puts the adjustment right at the work which makes it easier to reach at times depending on your setup. I went with the top adjust on the MA because this is a big holder with long arms and I didn't want to be reaching for the base. I went with the base adjust on the MG's because they are more compact and typically the base is close at hand. All that said I could be happy with either style. These are great holders and I like them far better than my old style Starrett holder.
