I am sorry to say that there will be no more ARA Matches at El Dorado, Calif. in 2008.

The interest in the matches has been waining and seems to have disappeared in my area.

A couple of old timers showed this AM ( Jerry and Dennis ), but that was it and that was it for me also.

I will revisit the issue next year and if there is enough interest, I will try to restart the program.

I will be sending a cancellation notice to Polly and the best to all this year and in the future.

My thanks to all the shooters who have participated over the past 4 years and to all those who have helped clean up and score. All that is vital to good matches.

Thanks again for the fun and friendship. :D

Is it the interest or the cost?? In my case I've been sticking mostly to the Bigger Matches this year. Between the price of gas and ammo cost, it's really hurting the ole pocket book. To go to the closest 3 gun match, which is 3.5 hrs away it runs me about $70 to $80 dollars in gas, then $40 to $50 dollars in ammo and $20 in match fees which isn't bad, but the overall cost just for the day is around $ 140 to $150. Get's kinda hard to splain that to the little wife. Either way, I hate to hear that your matches will have to be canceled for the rest of the year.

Costs are affecting us also !!

Fiddler,

The costs here are a significant factor also. Gas, ammo & traveling distances.

Last year I considered buying 2 cases of 10X, ended with 1 and this year I am lucky to find 1 case of Black box that I can afford. I sure am glad that I had already purchased my guns. To get good in this sport sure takes committment, bucks, and a lot of time (at least for me this is true).

All of the shooters I have in my area have at least a 1.5 hr of travel to shoot here. It takes me about 1 hr to get to my own range and the gas costs for my pickup add about $15 for a single trip. So much for a lot of practice !

I will try to get to some of the Modesto matches (RBA) later in the year since that is only 2.5 hrs away.

I am sure that everyone is feeling the same pinch that we are. I hope this does not last too much longer.

Thanks for the best wishes and the same to you and all in your area.:D

Distance to Match

John:
The average distance to other area matches in Texas, is 4 hours one way. You guys have it hard if you have to travel for one & a half hours to shoot. As for gas, I know you have to pay more per gallon, but to make it seem easier, we fill up every quarter tank, and it's seems to cost less each time. Also get you a Walmart Cash card and buy your gas at Murphy's USA at most Walmart's or Sam's, and you get a few cents off per gallon. We also went to the lesser expensive Eley Club, now Team, and finish where we will. Dorothy & I both agged over 2000 this weekend and were happy as clams.

Outside the Box . . .

Yesterday we had 18 shooters at our match. Two couples came up from Lower Michigan. All the rest of us were local, and our average driving time to the range is less than 20 minutes.

The answer to the attendance problem (it seems to me) is to get more local shooters involved in our game. And how do you do that? I have an answer, but it takes a lot of extra work doing promotion. And: The will to think outside the box, and make rule changes that attract new shooters.

John sure hope you can make it to our matches in Modesto. We have the same problem this year. last match we had 3 shooters. All of you El Dorado shooters are welcome here in Modesto. I had planned on being at your match on Sun. but I ended up in the ER on Fri and will be laid up for a week or 2. I sure hope you can get it going again next year,
Joe if you have some ideas on how to bring new shooters in or how to keep the old ones comming I would like to hear them. Last year we had about 8 to 12 shooters at each match.
RBA matches in Modesto the 1st Sun. of each month thru October If you don't know how to get here PM or e-mail me

Sunnyvale ARA matches

John,

Don't forget us. I understand your the one who started the ARA matches in Sunnyvale, and we'd sure like to see you back with us. We've been getting 6-8 shooters each month, so there's plenty of room for you. Just don't show us up by shooting too well.
