Hello, I am looking at two scopes the 8x32 NXS $1800 and the 8x32 Precision Benchrest $1200. Is there a lot of difference between these two ???? None of my guys have much recoil as they are so heavy. I would sure like to save 600 bucks for something else. Thanks- Chuck

Most of us who shoot *Benchrest* using a Nightforce actually prefer the benchrest model. I've never much cared for the side-parallax adjustment of the NXF -- or any of them, come to that. Additionally, in the past, some of the BR models had 1/8-minute clicks where some of the tactical models (NXS) had 1/4-minute clicks. Not sure that's true anymore.

Be sure to compare the statistics of each scope, in terms of the MOA of the clicks, and total vertical & windage MOA. If there the same -- or meet your needs -- I'd say save the $600. In fact, I'd pay a little more for a BR model over a NXS; fortunately we don't have to.

FWIW,

Charles

What game are you shooting? The NF, whether NXS or BR are super heavy. I have one on one of my VFS rifles that was built with it in mind. On the other, not built for the NF, now has a Leupold back on it.

Between the NXS and The BR model the BR model is definitely the way to go for BR shooting. All the BR models were 1/8 min clicks and all the NXS were 1/4 until very recently. If you are talking new scopes some models of the NXS are now available with 1/8 min clicks but I really see no reason to spend the extra money. BTW I have personally owned 3 of the 12-42 BR models , great scopes.

Down in KY, where I do my shooting, the 12-42 BR model is on top of a whole bunch of the VFS and UBR rifles. They have a reputation for being, if you'll pardon the pun, bullet proof.

I don't shoot any of the prone games. Is the side focus an advantage in them?

Well, I must have had the only one that came without a ballistic vest! NF was great on service though.

i have both and the glass is superior. i've read that the brs are a little bit clearer but i can't see the dif. since i do most of my shooting at varmints, the sidefocus is a BIG plus when shooting from 150 yds to 400 yds in a hurry. if i shot benchrest, i'd save money and go front focus with the 1/8 min clicks.

THANKYOU- I like saving money- I would buy more rifles but if the scope is 1800 per that starts to add up. $1200 is high but not I'll manage.

I have two nightforce scopes, two NXS 12x32 and one BR model 12X42. One of the NXS I bought over a year ago and it does have 1/8 clicks the other I bought 3 Months ago and it is a 1/4 click. The BR Model is also 1/8 click. One advantage to the NXS is it does have more elevation adjustment, now with that said I have just started shooting F-Class and at the firrst 1,000 yd match the BR Model had plenty of adjustment so that is probably not an issue at all.

I personally feel that the BR model Nightforce does have a little better optics as far as clear is concerned. Also even for "Prone" shooting I find the BR models controls to be more user friendly, I do shoot left handed so that probably has something to do with it too.

So for me shooting both F-Class and long Range Benchrest, if I was looking at one of the other of these scopes I would only consider the BR Model. And I own both......

I would think twice about the 12X42 BR in lieu of the 12X32 BR, mine never comes off of 42 and I wish I had more.

I have 2 NF one is the BR and the other is the NXS. Both are 42X.

I have one 10-50X60 Sightron. So far it has been very good. Optics are equal to the NF. Just not as rugged. But it is also heavy. Cost is less!

glad somebody mentioned sightron. read a lot...all good, so i bought one previously owned for $715 and was amazed! the clarity is GREAT! 8-32x56 and it really transmits the light. the clarity does come VERY close to my nightforces, which surprised me. got another 8-32 and it has 1/8 min clicks! these scopes, to me, are the best value out there! you really need to look thru one.

Ok---- I want to thank you for all the responses. I decided to go with the 8x32 BR because it has 50 MOA of adjustment over the 40 MOA of adjustment with the 12x42 BR. I also feel like I got this for free by buying the BR over the NXS
