ok, did a search on this and did not find the answer i was looking for. i seen a video today showing some runout on .17 rimfire. so hears my question and i think it is a very interesting topic, the 22 match ammo that we have avalible today, would it be woth a guys time to check for runout or is he wasting his time because of the tight specs manufactures are using.

thanks
chris

From what I have been led to believe there are a lot of top competitors using the concentricity gauge but they can't be revealed and they ain't talking.

Ammunition must be a lead projectile produced by a factory manufacturing a minimum of 1,000,000 rounds a year. Competitors using hand loaded ammunition, and/or ammunition produced with jacketed bullets will be permanently disqualified. Shaving, re-swaging, and/or re-sizing, either bullets or cartridge case is not allowed.

HUH? If you are checking the runout that is not any of what you are saying. Maybe you are pickled instead of pickles.

i have been thinking about gettin the tool from nielson brothers. what im asking is is there any on who checks there ammo and if you are what results are you getting, can your gun tell a difference between .001 and say .004.
thanks for te info, very curious to see how guns are reacting to this.

Mr. Rowland if it doesn't help you may get some comments. if it does help... well there may be dead silence on the subject, lol.

I'm sure you have read their site -the latest testing results i find is from 2004 and it's HERE.
now after reading the results something else i will have to consider "down the road"> thanks :)

I just bought one so needless to say I'm still testing but what I have found is both eley and lapua will have some with a .004 or worse runout hopefully removing those will eliminate some of those unexplained shots.

of the two what seems to be the most consistant, eley or lapua. are you using the club model gauge or the olympic.

I'm using the club model thats the one the Nielson recommended as for which one is more consistant eley or lapua looks like it's a toss up.

joe keep us informed as to how your testing goes. what ammo have you been testing the most of. i have found a olympic model from a member on the site so hopefully myself and a friend of mine with another annie can give some feedback soon.

There are 3 variables that can be easily checked on rimfire ammo.

!. weight

2. rim thickness

3. concentricity

If you are testing, 2 of the 3 must be held constant.

I thought MANOVA was used when you have variables that can not be controlled. Also, how large of a population of .04 or greater bad run out would you need.

Controll

You can't control the variables in 22RF ammo. I just shoot it. Never had a devise that helped me make 22RF ammo better.

No, you can use it for controlled variables - in fact, that is its normal application.

A power analysis for sample size would be fairly straight forward if the variances are known.

I would rather sort ammo. for variables, only because it is part of the fun, at least for me.
