Hello All; I'M Gary / ADCTrapper I call Myself a Newby But I'M not really. I'M just interested in breaking into the sport And would like to ask about a million questions on how to do it. Let Me start By giving a little background information on My special needs . And then ask for Your suggestions on how to breakin to the sport. And what catagory to start with on a budget.
I'M 55 and have Disableing Rhumatoid Arthritus so I have physical restrictions that limit My ability to shoot from sitting or prone positions. My ole knees just don't want Me to get up and down like that. So thought benchrest Might be a good solution. But I have no real knowlege of the sport, how to start, where to go,what rifle to start with on a budget. class requirements. Ect,Ect.Ect. I'M sure You all had these same problems when You got the bug. FYI I live about 100 miles due east of Memphis TN. Near where the state lines of AL,MS, and TN intersect. Is there any ranges anywhere close that I could come for a looksee. The little range I belong to is restricted to 100 yards. THANKS for Your help I'M sure I'M not the first to ask these questions. Think you're posting to the wrong forum...

Gary,

This reply is not a flame, but F-Class:
  1. Is traditionally shot from the prone position;
  2. Is fired at distances from 300 to 1000 yards;
  3. Is not a benchrest discipline. The sanctioning body in the US (as in most other countries) is the NRA (or local equivalent thereof). Rules governing this sport are contained in the NRA highpower rulebook, and not those of NBRSA or IBS.
NRA does allow shooters to fire F-Class from benches, but by written exemption only. Obtaining such an exemption is not difficult - all it requires is mailing a written statement from a doctor, and a diagram or photo of the suggested alternative to (IIRC) the NRA highpower board.

If this still sounds like the game for you, congratulations! It's a fun and challenging sport - and one where you shoot more rounds in one day than in an entire weekend at a benchrest match. (More rounds fired is good, right?)

However, if you're looking specifically for info about benchrest, try posting this question to the "Centerfire Benchrest" forum. This game is fired at distances from 100 to 300 yards.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Asa
