Newbie Needs some help and info...

I will be shooting 1000 the 1st time this year at Williamsport. I am curious to know a few things... 1st, Does anyone use 15X and under scopes? I have the Nightforce NXS 3.5-15 power x50mm. I know it's low power for 1000 but I got the lower power to make shooting groups more of a challenge.

Does anyone use M118 special ball ammo and if so, How does it perform? I have alot of it, Thats why I am asking. Thanks for any info!
 
Yes, there are still some heavy guns using scopes at and under 15x. I'm sure from time to time there's light guns there also in that range.

Shooting groups will be no more of a challenge because of the scope magnification.

Boyd Heaton just won 3 light gun aggs there using a 20x Nikon so I guess it will have little to do with how well you finish.

I have no idea what that ammo is you're talking about. If it's off the shelf stuff, I'll say with very little reservation, you will not even hit the target with 10, much less group well.
 
It certainly can't hurt to try it then. However, I'm sure you will find yourself reloading before you go to very many matches. No ammo out of the box is intended to be used for this purpose.

Hey, you need lots of brass eventually, and if you've got it, bring it. The box ammo that I've seen in my days have given ES's in the 300-400fps range. We strive to keep that number in the single digits or at least under 20. I think you will most likely find that they do not weigh powder close enough for this purpose. At 600, it might be fine for hitting the target every time, but I doubt it will perform to your liking at 1K.
