Im getting into the sport and right now I have my gun, and My handload holding a solid 1/2 MOA at 100/200/300

unfortunately 300 is as far as I can regularly shoot... trust me I know there will be a steep learning curve when it comes to wind reading at 300 vs 700+ yards so Im not dillusional.

im just wondering is 1/2 MOA showing enough potential?

just curious, what o your F- T/R rifles shoot?

im shooting a remington 5r milspec, bell and carlson medalist (mcmillan A4 profile), burris balck diamond 8-32X50 Side focus w/ 30mm main tube. Farrel 20 MOA base and burris Zee rings.

im looking to be compeative at the semi local level, and have no dillusions of being a pro, uness im jus insanely gifted when i get out there...:)

but id like to know is im doin ok so far.

1/2 MOA is the average of 600 rounds fired at given ranges and meticuliously recorded in log book

Dan,

Half MOA grouping out to 300 shows definite potential for good performance further out, with one small proviso. While you're shooting shorter distances, velocity spread of your loads is not an issue. When you get to 1000 yards, spreads over 20-25 fps can cause undesirable elevation.

If you want to give yourself a little more dusting of confidence, chronograph your loads, but chronograph as many rounds as you will shoot on a single target. You can get a great deal of information this way.

On the other hands, my F/TR rifle shoots right on ½ MOA at 300 & still holds enough better than 1 MOA at 1000 for me to know that the stray shots are mine, not the rifle's.

Maybe you should just enjoy the challenge of learning to read the flags as you progress out to longer distances.

Best of luck.

John

thanks,

i just wanted to know if i was in the right direction,

all load developement has been with random assortment of brass, im still ironing out 2-3 loads and as soon as I have narrowed it down, ill start load testing my match brass,

a chronograph is on my christmas list for the reasons you mentioned, im just coming out of a "benchrest" mindset where a half inch is barely suitable for coming to the game. this is a different game, and in my opinion a much better one.

Im also going to experiment with seating depth because my throat is very long but so far im relatively happy.
