If one were to start trying to shoot 1000BR, which class would be the best place to start? Heavy or light? I'll build the gun to fit. Just wondering which end of the rope to pickup.

Light gun
As you can shoot a light gun in the Heavy Class too. So design the gun of your dreams to total 17 pounds or less. P.S. I have seen alot of light guns win it all in the heavy gun class. Just ask the Hoovers at the Williamsport,PA shoots.

one caveat
when you choose the caliber, remember that you can't use your muzzlebreak in the Hvy gun class

Heavy Gun are allowed muzzlebrakes at....
IBS rules at this point do not allow for muzzle brakes in the Heavy Gun class. At The Original Pennsylvania 1000 Yard Benchrest Club in Williamsport, Pa. they do allow muzzle brakes in the Heavy Gun class which makes it very interesting. Hopefully IBS rules will change soon too.
