NEW Shilen Barrels

Has anyone tried these NEW Shilen Barrel's, thinking of trying one out and if you have how do you like them.

Thanks in Advance.

Ed Shilen is a true gentleman and right now his barrels are the hottest thing going. I've got two new ones coming.

Joe,
I would say that the proof is in the pudding, but with the true questions about ALL of them I think the jury is still out. There are some other "Killer" barrels available and I don't know their story (a certain shooter in MO comes to mind). But the short run of some "Killer" Shilens is just incredible. I'll find out about as quick as you will on how they perform in the wind.

Could you slug your barrel and provide some info like bore/groove size, taper at muzzle etc???

Clarence, one of the guys on this forum wanted it and I sent it to him. I hope to hear one of these days how it shoots. I am back in line again. Since we are working on the 2 oz. CZ trigger, it will probably end up on the CZ.

Here's the 3rd person asking....

What's so different about these new barrels?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a confirmed Shilen user. At least three people just want a straight answer.

Go to Shilen's website and see for yourself. They have a schematic of a regular barrel and a ratchet barrel.

My barrel that I sent out West was a .900 straight after the tenon. The bore at the breech was .2157 and at the muzzle was .2153, the grooves were .2213 at the muzzle and .2217 at the breech. It is a 16 twist ratchet.I think that the big difference is Ed Shilen is babysitting every rimfire barrel that leaves the shop. No secrets. Will it shoot, I hope so. For some reason it hasn't made it there yet. Tomorrow will be 7 days. It would be a B**** if the postal service ends up with it.

thanks for the straight info

I suspect the "baby sitting" is more responsible for good shooting than the rifling form. JMHO.

Also from the measurements, the bore is getting 4 tenths tighter & the grooves 4 tenths looser?

Ron,
That should have read .0004 taper on both. Both are tighter at the muzzle, lands and grooves. I guess My post was a little confusing.
I believe the babysitting is the big thing also.

Joe, Bll Myres just put one on for me 2 days ago. Tuning may or may not be finished. It is still new . I shot a 30 bull target yesterday that scored 300 and 27 x's. This was in a chicken house. I am hopeing to go to a range today.

Jim,
Is your Shilen barrel the ratchet 4 groove or a regular 6 groove?
Thanks,
Brad
