New Savage Tenon Size and Thread

Does anyone know the specs on the new Savage Target Action. I seem to remember the tenon diameter is 1.120" but don't remember how many threads per inch. Thanks in advance for the information. I'm considering using one for a new barrel blocked project. Hard to beat the price, less than $400 including a nice trigger.

Thanks Hal, I assume 1.120 was correct? Wonder why not 1.125 not that .005 makes a difference. I usually cut the tenon a bit under diameter to allow a little more flat on the top of the thread anyway.

I'm fairly certain they use UNJ inserts for the barrel threads but cannot confirm this. I bought a Kennametal 20tpi UNJ insert and the threads match exactly to factory barrels. I'm NOT a machinist by any stretch of the imagination but as far as I could figure/learn, regular 20 tpi UN is used for the inner thread and UNJ is used only on the OD threads. FWIW, I am under the impression from a Savage smith that the action is thread milled with a multi point insert while the barrel threads are cut single point.

Cheers,
Rob

Factory large shank barrel fits perfectly, recoil lug and barrel nut not shown.

Joel, I haven't barreled the action yet, but if I recall correctly, the paperwork that came with it listed the tenon at 1.115". I'll check tomorrow to make sure.

I went with 1.115" 20 tpi UNJ. That factory barrel in the pic is 1.110"

Cheers,
Rob
