New range coming on line in SW Virginia

I just got back from visiting a new gun range coming on line. So far, they started about 2 years ago, they have a range to 200 yards with 16 cornered benches and a range finishing construction with 22 covered benches reaching 300 yards. They also have several IDPA bays and started having sanctioned shoots.

This range is just outside the small town of Saltville Virginia and about 12 miles from I-81 exit 29. These guys and gals, some 200 members so far, have more enthusiasm than I have seen in years.

They own a 200+ acre track and are starting construction on trap/skeet fields.

Current annual membership is $100, life membership $1,100.

Hopefully we can get then into having NBRSA shoots, hopefully. That is why I started this thread in the Competition forum.

They have a Facebook site "North Fork Sportsmans Club".

Good news

Jerry, that's great to hear !! With all the hoops to jump thru in this day & time, it's refreshing to see people still have the energy to "see it thru" !!

Great news, be nice if they could get nbrsa matches up and running. I'm sure you could be a fountain of information for them Jerry.

I been to a tractor place in Tazwell i remember it was rt. 460 like a Ford engine. That range was offered to be used by Va 1000 club years ago but they turned them down...... jim

This range "North Fork Sportsmans Club" is about 40 miles South of Tazewell. The place I think you are talking about was in a community called "Frog Level" just off US 19 and about 15 miles from Tazewell. US 460 turns West toward Kentucky just South of Tazewell.

When folks find out they must pay yet another $60. to join the NBRSA before shooting, it just might not turn out as many new comers as hoped for.

460 goes through Tazewell from from Bluefield and 77, i picked up a tractor at Powertrac there years ago and they make mining equipment. You mentioned Saltville and that is the range that wanted to put in a 600 and a 1000. ....... jim

This North Fork range is a fairly new build, having started about 2013 or so.

As to US 460 I am very fimilar having walked from Richlands to Grundy twice on US 460 when VDOT was laying out the new road in the mid 1950's. I have traveled 460 many times from Bluefield to Grundy in the past 60 years.

Anyhoo, they, the club members, are excited and are very energetic about building a major shooting facility. So are folks like myself who live in the area.
