New problem

Im making a barrel Stub for my contender so I can put any type of barrel make of barrel on it , This project will be for 22or 17 or 20 rimfire only If I wanted to go bigger I would use a T/C Encore . Don't know why I am doing this , just because I want to .
The problem I run into is the doner barrel , There is nothing true about it , Chamber is out of round , the barrel is out of round inside and out . Can't indicate off the action side , it will be back inside the chuck . I can get it pretty close where I'm going to cut the barrel off on the out side of the barrel .0015 is about it . Should I just cut it off there bore it true thread it inside and then face it off where the barrel will set to the stub . All ways wondered why this barrel would not shoot a group .

Here is a barrel that someone else did and a picture of some barrel stubs .

In the case I think having the head of the case perfectly square with the face of the action would not be that important. Close would be good enough. The concentricity, parallelism and perpendicularity of the machined surfaces in the barrel stub would paramount. I would use a 4 jaw and shim until I had a good feeling while running an indicator back and forth internally and externally over the length of the barrel stub. At some point you'll say that's as good as it's going to get.

Dave that is what I did .

I have it together and shot it 6 times so far so good . I now have to Modify the scope base or make a new one because they are to long for the stub . The short barrel is what I cut the stub from a 30-30 barrel . And the barrel on the gun is 20 3/4 long so I will have to use my rifle stock on it . The barrel is a Shilen barrel I bought years ago and never used it , the brass tub on the barrel is so I don't scrach the barrel in the lathe . Now I need to finde a way the cut the extracter slot in the barrel or make some kind of fixture to put on my mill .
