The "Early Winter 2009" IBS President's Message is now posted at www.internationalbenchrest.com. The topics covered this time around are:
+ Congratulations to the 2009 IBS National Championships (600 yd; 1000 yard; Score and Group) winners
+ Annual Meeting set for January 16, 2010 near Harrisburg, PA. Full proceedings will be posted on website within 48 hours of conclusion of meeting.
+ IBS Score Shooting Hall of Fame being seriously considered
+ "Black Rifles" in IBS? Yes, the EBoard voted to allow, on a TRIAL BASIS, AR and AR-type rifles are allowed in their OWN class if a club wants to allow them. All the details are in my message. Short version: their own separate class, any sight, any trigger, any barrel, semi-auto ok, NRA chamber flags ok, must have brass catcher, no flash suppressor, no Nationals affected, can shoot AR's within normal relay, but squading encouraged. May be shot at 600 and 1000, but the longer distance may be more problematical.
The reasons for our support of creating this new class are:
· It furthers IBS mission of fostering extreme rifle accuracy
· Introduce new shooters to bench rest shooting and adds new IBS members
· IBS may become the primary vehicle to showcase the ultimate accuracy of “black rifles”
· The AR rifle community is an extraordinarily large and active group that should not be ignored
· New shooters at the matches may gravitate to traditional BR rifles
· Infuse the IBS and IBS-matches with new enthusiasm
· Raise the profile of benchrest shooting amongst other serious riflemen
All further details are being worked out and will be official at the Annual Meeting.
+IBS Website. New IBS website will "go live" before the Annual Meeting.
That should be enough grain for the benchrest.com mill for some time to come! .
