Now that this new offering (Norma 6ppc) has been out for a year, what are the general thoughts? Do you guys think its a worthy offering or just another offering? I bought a few pieces from a good friend of mine, and sent it off to my neck turning man, and he wasn't all that impressed. Myself, i thought it looked pretty good, but what do i know. I haven't shot any of it yet, but i do plan to. I like the idea of not having to shoot it twice before it is match ready. I figure one good forming shot, and i should be GTG! I will report what i find as i shoot this new Norma 6ppc brass this year, as this is what i plan on using, for at least the first half of the season. I have high hopes!! Lee

I have had major disappointments with norma brass. The out of the box concentricity was horrible, .004-.005". I make all of my 6ppc from lapua 220 russian. Expand, neck turn, and fire form. Alot of work but worth it.

Correct me if i am wrong but while necking up 220 russian lapua brass .004 to .005 out of round concentricity is also pretty normal yes? I would have to think anytime you neck a cartridge up it has the potential to make the case a little out of round, only to be corrected with a proper FF? This is what i find with necking up 6br brass to 30 cal anyway.
So is the new Norma 6ppc brass a new formula or is it the same old Norma some what soft brass? Thanks Lee

Lou M. posted about this last year and said he was going to use it at ONE (which) of the big matches he was so happy with it.
Maybe he will chime in and tell us whether he did or not and how well he (it) shot.

I was talking with a good friend of mine who frequents here and he was telling me that he though norma always made regular 6ppc brass. I was thinking this was something brand new, as far as the brass already being 6ppc and not 220 russian. my question now is how do you know what brass you have other than actually shooting it? Is the new brass in a different packaging, is it stamped a little different? I have high hopes for the Norma brass i have, and as soon as Dave Bruno gets my custom FL size die made i will give it a go and report my findings. Yes i certainly hope Lou chimes in. Lee

That's not the way I remember it....... but then nobody uses the stuff more than once so it's been a while.

There was a time in the 80's and early 90's that Sako, Ruger and some quasi-custom companies tried to bring the PPC out of the closet. A cartridge was standardized and called the "6PPC USA" and spec'd by SAAMI. Sako and Norma made this "6PPC USA" brass but never 6PPC to the best of my knowledge. The "22PPC" was also offered.

The cartridge was of course a total flop (the American buying public is driven by an ill-formed need for speed) and guns in this chambering are somewhat collectible today.

Someone like Cheechako can step in now and correct or edit my memory :)

Maybe that is right Al. I have some Norma 220 russian brass here in my hands i got from someplace. I wouldn't think that norma would make 220 russian and full blown 6ppc? Heck, i dont know!! Lee
