New Nightforce Competition

Although I haven't used it yet, I received a NF Competition for evaluation. It is an impressive looking scope, and I will use it in a 600 yard match on March 16th. Before then I will check its tracking and the stability in point of aim during power changes. Good shooting...James

James is that the New 15- 55X Who do I have to talk to so I can try one at a 1000 yards? Got a new rifle to try it on.

Joe, after writing for PS for ten years and now for NBRSA magazine, I sometimes get to try new products. This scope, although very expensive, is probably a winner for NF. I braved the cold winds and mirage to try it today. The results were very promising. I shot the square (48 clicks per shot) and tested for poi changes with power change on a 6 PPC. It passed both of these with flying colors. I shot three, 3-shot groups in my Dasher with it and they measured .417, .099. and .160. This was with 32.5 gr. of Varget and Berger Hybrid 105 seated to jump. Good shooting...James

James very impressive! I think your right they do have a winner. But they have always had it together with the clicks being repeatable. My two benchrest models are something I have no problem believing, even at 1000 yards. May have to give Kyle a call and see if he can fix me up. I'd love to at least try one.

James, how does the scope compare to the March offerings. Not sure you had a chance to put them side by side to see what image quality is like. I think the NF @ 27oz is about ~6 oz heavier then March which isn't great for short range BR.

Have you tried or seen the new Kahles K1050 benchrest scope?

Regards

I haven't tried the NF vs the March in a side by side comparison yet. On Sat. we will have our first 600 yard match and a couple of the shooters shoot March scopes. I will compare the two at the same power and see what they look like. Good shooting...James

Kudos to NF for listening. I wish them the best. Also, to March and Kelblys for upping the bar in comp optics, in a weight that is more LV friendly, to say the least. That said, I shoot mainly score, where weight isn't that big of an issue, so I'm not running out to buy a new scope that I simply don't need and can't justify, but I'm very interested in hearing about the new Kahles. It has been my opinion for some time that Kahles has had the best glass in the industry, bar none, when it came to hunting scopes, and that they have proven to be rock solid in terms of tracking and durability. With their new 10-50x target scope, I'd expect the same. They have been the standard by which others are judged in Europe for many years, and are one of, if not the oldest optics manufacturers in the business. I'd love for someone with deeper pockets than mine to give them a try and report back. If I had a need, and a bit more $$$, I would definitely have to look into them as an option to the proven March and NF lines. Here's a link with just a bit of Kahles history and info.
