Greetings, new member here. Long time varmint hunter and part time BR shooter, although I parted ways with my PPC 6 years ago.

Recently I have participated in some 'fun' bench rest shoots with my custom .243 Ackley (250 yard shoot @ a 200yard BR target). A little history on the gun……… it was smithed by Clarence Hammonds over the winter of '98/99, action is a trued Rem 700, Hart 26" HV barrel, 14 twist, .266 neck, jewel trigger, MacMillan MBR stock with a Weaver 24 power scope. My 'pet' hunting load to date has been….. 70 Nosler BT, over 49 grs H414, CCI BR primer, Lapua brass.

Now for my question(s)

1) For 'fun' 'Varmint Bench Rest matches what would those familiar with this round recommend ? my initial plan is ……. 68 Berger match, 47 grs H414 to start.

2) the trigger on the gun now, a twelve oz jewel breaks at a consistent 11 ozs, since I've long lost the instructions does anyone know if this is adj to a lighter setting ?

Looking forward to good dialogue going forward

regards,

Dave

Welcome Dave,
It's always good to get new folks here. However, this bunch tends to be somewhat anal about this game and I doubt you'll get much of a response to your questions as they tend to only want to talk to and about "serious" Benchrest (capital B) topics. This is unfortunate, but it is what it is.

I suggest you'll get more replies and the kind of dialogue you're seeking if you go to the forum on accurateshooter.com. You might try the Reloading forum or maybe the varmint hunting forum, but I think that if you post your question there you'll get some answers. Good luck

Rick

Fixed it ???

I think I fixed this post by changing the punctuation in the title - maybe...

Don't know exactly why but vBulletin seems to have a problem - perhaps they will fix it soon. Could always be MY problem but I don't think so this time. Do any other threads have a problem (a problem that's software related )

Hi Dave,
Welcome.
2. Google Jewell Trigger. There is a schematic and instructions.
i just got back from Varmint Match. It's a 4 best out of 6 league. Lot of fun.
1300 hrs and the sun behind you. That blk and white picture looks like it's breathing.

1. shoot that 6PPC.
I just use my Benchrest Firearm. Works for varmint shoots, Varmint for Score matches, and the best NBRSA Group shooting.
I guess, it works for IBS.

Gents,

thanks for fixing the issue, Rick, thanks for the heads up, I'll try the questions in some of the other areas

I like Hogdons and IMR stick powders better than ball powders and you need to individually weigh your loads IMO. IME you'll get your best results using moderate loads and neck sizing only, using Wilson hand dies

Keep your lugs greased, like every 25rds
