Hi Guys. I'm new here. Im up in Everett Wa, and I'm wanting to get started in benchrest shooting. Where in the PNW is it shot? Im going to probably build something new to play the game since my Mossberg 144 probably wont get it done anymore..... Scott.

Scott - welcome to Rimfire Benchrest. Hope that you find it interesting, challenging, and a heck of a lot of fun.

Best,
Michael

Thanks Guys.. I'm new to this, I have an old Mossberg 144 gopher gun sitting in the rack. Its been neglected for years and has old iron sights on it. I'm going to tune it up , but im not too sure it's worth fixing. the bore is ratty ..... Anyway, which way does one go these days.. Do I grab a position rifle and go from there or are these 10-22 raceguns a place to start. Be gentle, I'm a shotgunner crossing over from the darkside and I have no clue about benchrest shooting, which is why I'm interested in it, its a new challenge............... Scott.

Welcome

You are welcome to choose any make or model 22RF to shoot in any RF discipline if that fits the profile. I would not suggest using what you presently have for any of the major disciplines, as they are way ahead of you in technology. I suggest you read over all the rules of each discipline presented on this site, and make your choice from there. If at all possible, check out the shooting schedules in your area, and attend some of them to see how you would fit in with your equipment. Best to you and hope to see you at a match somewhere.

Depending on budget and desire, the best thing for you may be to purchase a used rifle. Most of us sart out this way. Advantages include no wait for a build, less money spent, you can normally shoot it before buying and if you loose intrest you can sell for what you have invested. Include a location in your profile, there may be someone nearby that will help you get started.

Welcome. You will be offered a lot of advice, try it all. Some will work for you, some will not. Everybody has their own preferred way to do things. You'll have to figure out your way. Don't forget to have fun.
