Im new here and this is my first post, and I'd like to say "Hi". I wish I could say that Im a fellow benchrest shooter, but I hav'nt progressed to that point yet. But thats what Im striveing for thats why I joined this forum. Im not a good shot, but Im not bad either, I guess I would call myself an OK shot. I guess my philosophy is to become the best shot I can be with-out the use of a front, and rear rest, then after I get good like that, then make the leap to real benchrest shooting. I have three bolt rifles, a stock Savage FCP-10 in .308, a 22-250 Savage model 12 varmiter with a Bell&Carlson Medalist stock, and a stock Ruger M77 target .308. When I hand-load I do it by the book, that is I full length resize my cases. I trim them to length, and aneal the case mouth, then prime them, charge them and seat the bullet as per the depth the manual states. All my rifles have bi-pods, and I shoot off them, and use my left hand under the butt of the rifle. I use CCI BR primers, and 41.5 grs of RL-15 behind a 168grn Sierra BTHP match bullet for the .308, and 34.5 grns of IMR 4895 behind a 55grn Burger bullet. On a GOOD day I can get 3/8ths inch groups, 4 shots at 100yrds with tboth Savages, and about 5/8th inch groups with the Ruger. So as you guys can see I have ALOT to learn about benchrest shooting. Thats why I joined this forum, and Im gonna be a good student, and listen and learn from you experianced benchrest shooters.

Now that spring is here, find a reasonably local upcoming benchrest tournament and pay a visit. You'll meet some great people and get some idea of what kind(s) of equipment and techniques are producing those itty bitty groups (even when the wind is blowing). It's pretty common for someone to let you try their rifle to shoot a group or two in practice -- you may find that your shooting ability is better than your current equipment allows. And more than likely you will shoot the smallest group of your life with the first 5 shots from someone's borrowed BR rifle. ;)

Thanks for the info, I think I'll contact the ISRA to find out when the BR competitions will take place. Poker Player, I live in Tinley Pk.
