New EV2 Reg

I haven't been happy with my ev2 reg for some time. It use to creep a lot and have wild velocity swings. I took it apart and found a factory oring was wrecked. Fixing the oring helped a bunch but the reg still had drifting issues over the course of a fill. It was a complicated reg to redesign and build, but it is finally done. Here is a photo of the original reg on right and new on left.

I predict an accuracy of about 1% and a minimal shot to shot variation.

It is about 1/4" longer than the original.

STD 1.1 fantastic Looks great and perfoms even better.I see a big difference in O-ring thickness.I`m getting very excited about getting my Marauder back.Best Marauder in
town?Well best .22 maybe.
 
I think I'm done with your mrod. I'll watch for leaks but it has been very tight so far.

Dan, that reg looks amazing!! SD of 1.1??? *DROOL* I can't wait to see the performance of the reg you're going to build me for my Swift/Chip/Dan B/Dawson Rapid MkII! I can't wait!!! ;)

Ok Dan the world didn't end down here, how can i get one of these, it looks the goods to me to make the EV2 even better.

Hi Bill. This is a new design and it needs some more work before it hits the streets. I have to make a couple modifications for it to really see its potential and it will require that another reg is built and used for some time.
The downside is of this reg is that it is more difficult to build and cost will be more.
Also be aware that the numbers that I'm getting from my ev2 may not translate well since my gun is not stock. It has a cz barrel, different probe design, and the barrel is oringed for better air control.
Also be aware that a regulator is just one variable that affects velocity variation. You can have the best regulator in the world but other variables such as pellet, bore, air sealing, lubrication, and action variation can render the guns sd average.
When I use crosman premier pellets vs jsb I usually get about a 40% increase in extreme spread, all else equal.

Standard Deviation of 1.1. That's just incredible. I think most air gun tuners have more deviation in their chrono itself.
 
Here is a string from last night.

The average is a little different. The first string was with a 2k fill pressure, the second was a week later with a 3k fill. I will have to redo the tests since I may have used a different pellet the second time. If it was the same pellet then I will have to lower my reg pressure a little so that the average velocity is the same at a high fill and a low fill.

I take your point that the other alterations you have made to your rifle may have some bearing on the results, however the effect of those components can only be highlighted by the efficiency of the regulator........whichever way you shake it, those reading are impressive.

Don't suppose you want to work on the TM1000 next :eek:

Actually Brian I have worked on a TM, Mark Ns gun, aka Joewillie, has one of my regs. I have a couple more TMs on the way here for some new regs.
Interesting bit about the new ev2 reg, the pressure is set at 1325psi. Most ev2s like about 1500 psi. The new reg has more plenum volume which is the only reason I can think of for the low working pressure.

That's good to know Dan. I'll see how the standard unit performs and go from there.

Are the standard ones easy to adjust? I'm going to play around with a shorter barrel 16mm x 15" and will need to adjust the regulator. If it's the same as the Rapid, I have the adjustment procedure for that.

I received a price today for a FWB 800 barrel - 237Euro + shipping. Problem is they come with the outer sleeve and it is bonded on (I'm informed).

I believe they are the same as the rapid reg.
237 euros is about $313, about the price of a custom made barrel in the states.

Jon Harris who is doing the FWB800 seems to think perhaps it's the air delivery system and maybe not the barrel. I think he plans to try another barrel or two on the FWB800 action to see. I can't imagine holding inside the kill zone at 55 yards in the wind with a 12fpe rifle.... time to play the lotto.
