If you was building a new rifle for benchrest,,which action would you chose,,A Hall,Turbo,or the new Stiller 40X clone??? And why ?? Thanks..

I'd go with Bill Myers new action, and have done so. At least I have put my order in for one. I think he is calling it The Virginian. bob finger

If only a wish list I'd go for the Bleiker action from Switzerland

Friend Bob,

You neglected to answer the "And why" part of xpfuzz's question. Please speak freely, inquiring minds would like to learn from your reasoning.

Well, a barreled action is only about $4,000. Doesn't seem that far out of the norm now.

Beau,

The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.

So nothing wrong with dreaming big. Beside you seem to pay a lot more import duty/tax over there then we do.

The Why. One I have great confidence in Bill Myers work and the utmost respect for him as a person. Two I consider Bill a friend. Three I have viewed his prototype and have watched it progress, something I have never had the opportunity to do before. Four it is being built by some of the best machinists in the country. Five it will accept the Anschutz 5018 trigger (also the Jewell type, your choice I believe). There are others but they are what I consider personal. I suspect I am somewhere near number 100 on the order list. Its gonna be a while.

Bill has been open about the project here on BRC. Do a search if you want to read more about it. bob finger

Probably do; we love our taxes. But I'm serious. If someone wants a Bleiker, it's not that far out of the ballpark. I guess the question is would the barrel be any good. If you have to have to put a new barrel on it, then you're gonna get into some bucks just for an action.

for the price of a bleiker and smithing a new barrel you could have a new calfee spec rifle or almost two spec rifles by bill meyers:)

I think i`m leaning more towards the Stiller 40X clone,as I can get it in a left bolt/left port,,and i`m sure if Mr. Stiller is making it,that it will be a first rate action..Plus for his price, the difference between it and a Hall or Turbo,I can get a good barrel...Thanks for the input guys...

I have not talked to Mr Stiller and I know his other actions are R or L bolt but I have heard that he is using a Pacific Tool bolt and I don't think they come left. When you're sure, let us know8>)...

Delay

Stiller has promised several times, that his action would be available in the Spring of 09. So far, no action. I hear there is a problem with extractors, but can't confirm that. As for my recommendation, I would go with another Hall, or wait a bit longer for the Virginian by Bill Myers. Then again, I might not live long enough to need another action.

Fred: I might not live long enough either, but if that happens someone at the club is going to be a very happy camper when my will is opened and executed. I can't take it with me and its so much fun to anticipate. Hell, I've spent the big winnings on the $100M lotto on so many indoor barns, underground tunnels, in house gunsmiths, complete runs of a lot of Eley etc. to last several lifetimes. If it ever happens, well lets not go there.

I just wish the Government would get off its can and let the guys start building The Virginian. Suspect they are too busy designing cars we won't want. bob finger

Well when I ordered it in a left/left he said no problem but it would take a little while longer..Hope I get it in this lifetime.. We shall see..And another thing,,I wonder why Stiller took the pic of the action off their website..
