Received my box of test bullets today via the big brown truck and did some preliminary measurements on them. The meplats are very uniform and I'm not going to waste time and effort to trim them, they look that good. The base to ogive for the BT is 0.840" compared to 0.821" for the VLD model, so shouldn't be a problem using this bullet in a chamber throated for the VLD. I will take these to the range tomorrow to ladder test them in my 7BooBoo HG and develop a load to shoot at the WV 1000yd match this coming Saturday. If I have enough left over, I am going to test them in a 7WSM LG that I have as well. This rifle was throated for the 180VLD and very few other bullets will even come close to reaching the lands. A GTB 176 will barely and a 175SMK will just kiss them, but barely anything left in the neck.
Statistically the box sorted out very well. The spread was 0.48g (measured on an Ohaus Adventurer Pro) and the bearing surface had a max delta of 0.006" (measured with a JB Bullet Comparator and an Ames mic). See the rest of the data in the attached spreadsheet. Will post the proof in the pudding after I get to the range in the morning.
