New AR rule.

Just wondering......I've been to 3 shoots at Pella and one in Harris. I have not seen any gas guns yet. Have any of them showen up on the line at any other matches? I am sure I read somewhere that they will be leagel in 1K comp in thier own class.

All I heard about for years is how good they shoot....now....not a peep.

There are ARs that shoot well, but everything needs taken in context. They are not suitable for use in bags and since they must be fired single shot, that takes away any "advantage" they could possibly have. They do not have the ummph for 1K use. That isn't their intended purpose. I did shoot one for fun once just to see what it would do, (not in a match) and was impressed that it shot just around 2' using open sights in good conditions. (80gr Bergers in .223). I would say that's about as good as they get. So to take one to a match and say you're "competing" is a bit of a stretch. You're there, and you're shooting, but it's pretty much a waste of bullets, time, and effort. I would not call it "competing". I mean, there's a reason these things have 30shot mags. It's cause they don't expect to hit anything with the first 29! :D

I would put a really good one about on par with a decent varmint gun. And you don't see many of them at 1K matches either. Fish out of water... Course, you probably wouldn't do so good taking your heavy gun to a Hi-Power match either.
 
not a 1000 nor 600 gun, but my ar10 in 308win br shoots very well. sub 2's with a small of 0.116....flat forearm, single shot, 36x luepold
have used my stk ar10t at 600...just std 308 win with 175 's does well...just no wind reading skills by me.( was only my second 600).
i'm building a convential br bolt gun in 300 win mag for 1000.

all that said i had heard nothing about ars in lr br...there is ibs short range rules for ar's.

I am not saying they could/should shoot as good....I know that they can't. But.....the question is.....has anyone seen one at a match??? I know that they were going to give them there own class ...maybe let them add a flat to the bottom for tracking.....and shoot IBS 1K. Just wondering if any range has seen any to date. I just thought it may bring more (different) people to IBS events.

Pella and Harris do not list the AR class so I would assume that it is not offered at Pella or Harris.
We are offering the AR class at Grand Island 600yd IBS matches but so far this year attendence hasn't been good enough to have a decent LG or HG class, let alone an AR class. I hope to do a little better job promoting the Aug 28 match and I think we will see some ARs show up then. We did have some "black" rifles show up at the first match this year but they were shot in factory class since not all were AR rifles and I don't think the shooters were IBS members.

James has it right, if a club is offering AR class they are supposed to have it listed on the IBS schedule so shooters know. On the other hand if an AR shooter showed up and the club is prepared to handle them in accordance with the IBS AR rules that would be ok, but I would not advise anybody to drive to a match unless AR class is listed on the schedule.

Gallatin has AR on the schedule but so far not a single taker. If anyone will give me a few days notice to load and prep my AR, I'll make sure they don't have to shoot alone in the AR class. You hear a lot of talk about how great they shoot but noone wants to show up and shoot one. I truly don't know why not. I think if it ever gets started, it'll snowball.---Mike Ezell
 
Bolt versus auto challenge

Maybe a timed head-to-head match would spice things up: first one to hit all five dots wins! Accuracy versus speed. That would be an interesting match.
