Hi everyone. I am a new member here, i was looking in to building my own 6mm Ackley Improved. I know the a.i. has the casings fitted but i would like to know about the gun also. What needs to be done to it to be a.i. Also what all of the parts i would need to buy for it. Actions, barrels ect. Just not sure whats all involved. Also, what you think would be the best parts and where to buy them. Any info is appreciated. Thank You.

If you are using the fine 700 action, while the barrel is off, radius the corner of the lug recess and the length of it, where the shoulder of case will be forced against on extraction/ejection. If you don't you will often end up with the fired case "catching" on that edge and marking the brass.

I see you have violated rule #1 also. Don't do anything to make the phone ring.

What Dennis is referring to is when the case, just about any caliber can do this but worse on straight cases, clears the chamber it pivots to the right and up. It makes contact with the top corner of the bolt lug raceway. There is always a sharp edge there that leaves about a 1/4 inch scratch at the juction of the body and shoulder on the 6Ack. That's when we get a phone call from the customer. Other than that not much has to be done to an action to accept the 6MM AI case. If you're going to use a short action like a Rem 700 I would recommend an extended mag box be installed. If it's a Remington clone like I have or others have on the market get it with an extended box.

Call me and we'll narrow down what you need then you can decide which direction to go .
