Need inputs/opinion, please.

Gentlemen, I would embarace myself for asking this....but it is much better to ask for your inputs/opinion rather than do not know exactly for what I was doing in the SS sometime ago, or just struggling to understand the things for myself. So your inputs will be much appreciated!

As you might know, I am just newbie to BR and reloading. I only shot for a very very few matches and never developt loads myself before this.

Some pics bellow...

The powder is N133 (not sure with the lot etc). Bullet is Bart's Ultra 68gr FB.
Since I could not have/get consistent weight using powder measure, I re-weight each charge with digital schale. I set the measure (Harrel's) at 55 and 1/3 btw, and carefully weight it at 28.4 grains, every time. Well, I only noticed that it shot "better" in this charge/weight during the practice days, and it "seems" no vertical to me. Again, I'm just a newbie & dumb!
Bart Sauter asked one empty case and he gave me reference with bullet seated, and suggested to try some loads from that. It was about touching the rifling in my chamber, not jammed, not jump. (thanks Bart, your help is much appreciated!). Paul Schmid guided me with the loads and suggested me to choose for myself which load that shot/group better. (thanks Paul!).

(My best guess is, I used "mild" load and not in "upper load" window...? I did not have enough time to experiment with more charges in that time, besides I know nothing about loads!).
I used .290 bushing, btw. I just felt that it was about the "same" neck tension with the rounds I used last years in Oz & WBC-8. Paul Schmid have helped me with the case prep etc before.

..........
My question is,....looking from the pics, from the vertical/horizontal "dispersion" etc...do you think the load was okay?....Or do you think my rifle shoot okay/well enough?...what must I try/do next time?....Is it pure about the (unexperienced) driver?

I understand that I have made some big mistakes, was wrong to judge the right time/conditions, etc. Once or twice I tried to shoot as fast as possible, and the result was like the 5th group of LV 100....lol.

I need inputs here. I will follow your inputs/suggestion etc for next year event & hoping better result.

Many thanks in advance,
seb.

Could be the sun was glaring off bright and shiny portions of your rest, and confusing your scope picture... :D

Looks like conditions to me. Looks like the rifle and stock were shooting. For the 200 yard targets, it looks like you coulda stood with going up or down a little, but the horizontal dispersion looks like wind instead of load.

Were you shooting the "fat butt" or "skinny butt" stock?

Looks like the thing was actually tracking okay - to me, I see wind. Heck, I saw enough wind that week to last the year...

Adding the weight is going to change the recoil impulse, which is going to mean that you'll get different grouping. But the rifle looks like it was doing okay...

Seb, the above numbers is a copy/paste from the SS2008 match report. It may be difficult to read for someone not used to that match report style.

Overall, you did great for the first big shoot. Remember, if you finish in the top 100 in that crowd, you are a world class shooter, the best of the best. Finishing in the top 200 puts you among the rest of the best.

I posted the numbers because your photos are hard to see clearly. Looking at the actual numbers, you only had a bad group ever once in a while. Example, your 0.238, 0.352. and 0.330 are pretty good considering the wind conditions. Shooting sub 0.260 groups for 5 record targets, in the conditions we shot in, takes years of practice for good shooters and it takes several hundred range practice sessions for the best of the best.

Example, the guy who won the Super Shoot in 2007 was a relatively new shooter. But, his friends will tell you, he shot just about every day including the cold and snowy days in Michigan. What I am trying to say is that it takes practice and more practice and excruciating dedication to get into the top 20 in any aggregate at the Super Shoot with its 300+ shooters from all over the world.

Personally, I think you did great!!

Hi Jerry,

Thanks you for your time & the kind words etc!

I think that sometimes I set my "goal" too high and not realise my limitations and so on...in fact I only shoot once or twice for a year, and know nothing about reloading (etc), too.
I only hope that I can become a good, or "world class" shooter, someday.

Seb,

I watched you shoot many of your groups. Your rifle was shooting very well and was in tune most of the time. It looked like you were having trouble finishing your groups. Often the first three shots were very small only to have the forth or fifth shot make the group.

You and your rifle shot extremely well all things considered.

Bart

Bart, it's surprising me that someone like you were watching a newbie shoots his groups.
Yes, you're right I was having trouble to finish my groups. I must learn much better about reading the wind/condition, to prepare all things better, etc etc. I love this game (BR shooting). It's really chalenging!

Thanks you so much for your time & kind helps!...seb.
